Interesting you posted this. I just finished doing some background reading on Smarties to find out what they are actually made of. They make a claim of "all natural flavoring", but they are essentially made of glucose which is what the industry now calls dextrose due to glucose getting such a bad rap. Sounds like an aspartame bait and switch tactic.

Because it's such a simple sugar it can cross the blood brain barrier, and affect the brain cells directly.

This is why they are so addictive. The bad news is it's typically (almost certainly) derived from GMO corn, and with a super high absorption rate all over the body. It's like GMO corn freebasing.

I actually emailed the manufacturer to ask if their products are GMO free. I just wanted them to have to specifically spend money to pay someone tell me they are full on GMO crack. Everyone should do the same; thousands of man hours spent every day telling people they are GMO corn crack dealers...maybe they'll consider organic sources. I did my drop in the ocean effort anyways.

As an aside, young kids are apparently smoking smarties (and M&M's?) in schools to get high ?!?! and some schools are banning them. WTF indeed.
