Can anyone explain the significance of ARKA PATRA - ERUKKAM LEAVES in Ratha Saptami.why do v keep arka patra on our body and take bath on Ratha Saptami? Its related to Sun as its used in Surya Upasana.(Sun is also known by the name Arka).also whats the significance of Ratha Saptami? i guess sun is changing his path but then already its Uttaraayana now from Pongal.

Regards,
Sangeetha.
sir - 'RATHA' in sanskirt means chariot. 'saptami' means seven. 'ratha sapthami' is a famous festival in orthodox temples, particularly in tirupathi, where god turns up in all streets around the temple to see the devotees, in seven vaganaas daily (vehicles) on the chariot on seven days.one day, sun will be escorting the god , and the chariot will be decorated forming sun as background. one day moon god. similarly totally seven days, seven vaaganaas.
