Aframs, from the Northeast (especially B'More, Philly, Jersey, NYC, Boston) are very distinct from other Aframs even if you consider the Caribbean influences.
- They don't speak the Afram Vernacular English perse, at least by southern or even Chicago standards. - Hip-Hop started up here, and as a result many Aframs around the country have become a little NYC'd out |

There are more Mexicans in the USA than all other Hispanic groups combined. ---------- Post added 2012-02-06 at 17:36 ---------- Aframs, from the Northeast (especially B'More, Philly, Jersey, NYC, Boston) are very distinct from other Aframs even if you consider the Caribbean influences. |

Sorry to bust your bubble, it depends on the area of the country within the United States. For example Puerto Rican and Dominicans dominant the North east, therefore most non hispanic groups will be familar with them, at the same token Cubans dominate Florida, again most non hispanic groups will be accustoms to Cubans. Likewise most of the people in the west coast and south west is accustom to Mexicans and other central Americans groups, therefore most people outside the so called hispanic group are more familiar with your groups, and trust me l lived in both coasts, So i know what i am talking about here! You rarely hear people talk about Mexicans in New York, eventhough some live in New York, they are not as numerous as their Puerto Rican and Dominican counterparts. ![]() ---------- Post added 2012-02-06 at 17:07 ---------- The Fault line between the different so called hispanic groups is the mid west, where the term is basically becomes blurred, therefore it depends on who you talk to. However no offense to Mexicans the music of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic is far more rhythmic and delightful to hear than your Mariachi. Needless to say, when i first heard Mariachi i thought it was Circus Music, until i understood people actually listen to that bland art form, but to each its own. Again no offense! Mariachi Banda Mariachi is respected in Latin America ![]() |

That still doesnt change the fact that mexicans and mexican culture are the main ones that represent Latino/hispanics. I have been to Florida and even though we are not a majority there, they know who are mexicans, they know about our tacos, burritos, aztecs, mayans, cancun and know where mexico is located. Even hillbillies know who mexicans are, mexican history is taught in the USA, our 5 de mayo are celebrated even by whites and blacks. I dont know what other hispanic celebration is celebrated here in the USA. In fact, even other latinos have complain about the ignorence here in the USA when it comes to hispanic culture and how they associate everything with mexican culture. They have tried to deport puerto ricans to Mexico because they believed Puerto Rico was a state in Mexico, or the other one who got deported to Mexico because the immigration officers thought puerto ricans were from mexico. I am sorry to bust your bubble again, most of the schools in the East Coast or probably elsewhere in the country hardly teach ancient aztec or mayan history, therefore i don't know where you coming from with that none sense. Unless you are taking a coarse in College, or watching the history of discovery channel, other than that people don't care. Also, I had never heard of Cinco de mayo, until i moved in Los Angeles, nor have i heard of the Afram holiday Juneteeth therefore in places like New York, and other East Coast cities Mexicans is pretty much irrelevant with the only expection is the immigration issues. Needless to say, the Puerto Ricans do have a parade every june, and the music is alive and kicking unlike your Mariachi. ![]() P.S. I did watch some of the videos ![]() Hasta la vista amigo ---------- Post added 2012-02-06 at 23:53 ---------- Numbers speak for itself holmes. Try again from the next thread Friend. Peace. |

Greeting Batman You're just butt hurt because of what he said in the other thread and now you got it against him. And really? You never heard of Cinco De Mayo until you moved to Los Angeles........ but you're from the East Coast where majority of Mexicans are poblanos and CDM is a MUCH bigger deal to them than it is to Mexicans anywhere else outside of Puebla? ![]() ![]() And there is no need to say "no offense". Your opinion doesn't matter when countries worldwide listen to Mariachi (one of Mexico's numerous genres). If masterpieces like this sound like circus music to you, then it is a compliment. ![]() I've been to the east coast and I have family there. They might be pretty ignorant about all of Mexico but they dang well know more than a thing or two about the country. That is for SURE. When I went, nobody ever asked: Mexico? Is that somewhere in PR or DR? ![]() |

Greeting Batman ![]() Everyone on the East coast knows who mexicans are and where mexico is located, or can you prove me wrong? Only someone very stupid in the USA would not know who mexicans are, its like not knowning who are Italians. Everyone has heard of 5 de Mayo, you just hate to admit it because you keep failing with your nonsense, you see how easy I keep pwning you? Its not my fault your fellow African got deported ![]() Needless to say, what do Puerto Ricans even have to do with this argument? Or do you think they will come to save you from this mexican? They will not kiss ass and side with you ![]() But we mexicans do have our parades, our festivals as well, and our music is alive and kicking, even in countries like Colombia where they tend to love our circus music, as a matter a fact, Mister G, let me show you videos of black guys enjoying our beautiful circus music ![]() Asians love our circus music also Please stop crying Mister G ![]() ![]() |

Mister G, you cant burst anyone's bubble, please stop trying because you keep failing, this is going on your fail attempt record Disagree, Trust me on that one, everyone don't know what Cinco De mayo is, actually i called one of my friends that still lives in New York, he wonders what the hell i am talking about, yet the Puerto Rico day(N.Y) parade everyone knows. Likewise everyone knows the Carribean festival every September in Brooklyn, reason being because it gets media exposure in New York. If the Mexican demographic was important, then cinco de mayo would be known. Therefore the Mexican presence in New York and other places in the east coast is not strong at this time. Secondly, why should i care what other black people listen to even those of my own ethnicity? Like myself they are at liberty to listen to whatever music genre they want whether it is your circus Mariachi ![]() One thing i have to admit, i wish they taught the real history in our public schools, because everything did not revolve around the pilgrims or the former 13 colonies. Basically, I learned the history of Mexico when i moved to California, I first learned your history from a subway station stop at Universal City walk on the red line. It has a mural of the original settlers in Mexico California. Afterwards, i preceded from there and learned about your history, from the Mayan, Olmec, Toltecs, Mixtecs, Aztecs, and later the Spanish period and even the short lived French period. Therefore, I am educated myself about your history, which is quite interesting indeed, but i wish you had better music, again no offense! ---------- Post added 2012-02-07 at 04:18 ---------- He schooled you, MG. Just admit it. Lol http://www.forumbiodiversity.com/showthread.php?t=18525 One thing i have to admit, the thread above is very comical. However, In all truth, I have never heard of Cinco De Mayo until i moved to Los Angeles, I am not saying it is not celebrated in New York or other east coast cities, but it is not recognized in the Local news media in many east coast cities, besides Chicago, maybe? These are the following cultural events that New Yorkers see on their local news, beside the Marcy Holiday parade. These are the following events i grew up with when i lived in New York for 11 years, and each smilies will represent how i feel about each event. Saint patrick day parade ![]() Columbus day parade ![]() Puerto Rican day parade ![]() Caribbean parade ![]() The years i lived in New York, those of the events people normally celebrated. P.S I remember doing this event as a kid, and i have to admit it was fun However, according to tradition he suppose to be blindfolded. Well... That is the way i remembered playing it, so maybe it has changed. |
