Why are you being so hostile? I don't think most white Americans care, they'll probably just think it's odd because it seems so surreal that whites could be a minority in America in the future.
I think whites don't think of themselves as white, they think of themselves as normal.
The problem isn't white people not having racial identity, it's minorities not being willing or able to abandon theirs and join the whole.
Civil rights used to be about making that possible (i.e equality). Now it's more about allowing people retain and be proud their minority outsider status. Not good.
All should swear alliegance to the US flag, not skin color or ethnicity, or we're doomed.

Thats going to be a perk of being a 'worse' white, like some classified some non WASP groups.
One can always say to the (soon majority) non-whites 'we are on the same side, have always been with you, friends, remember? not long ago they wouldnt let us to bars with whites'
while at the same time 'white-white' will have nothing as an excuse and will be waiting for a knock at the door and trying to find some non-white connection. One drop rule will gain another meaning.

I disagree. White people definitely know they are white and the privilege that still comes with that.

I think he meant that Whites call themselves just White or American. While the rest of us have a hyphenated name (i.e. African American, Asian American, Latino-American, etc). At least that's what I got from his post.

The Bay Area is sort of an anomaly though. The Silicon Valley industry combined with mass immigration of highly educated Asians. Overall it is very well integrated, but I'm sure on the east side of SJ you can still find some scary hoods. You know Santana Row used to be one of the most gang-infested parts of town before it was bulldozed and gentrified. I noticed something similar happened up in East Palo Alto. Oakland and Richmond though, they still look pretty rough. If you're wondering, yes I used to live in San Jose and Milpitas.
You're so well informed on San Jose.

Edit: I see that you wrote you use to live here.

I'm surprised. I didn't even know the demographics that well until I had to do research and use the US census for my sociology paper regarding my neighborhood.

I agree though. Parts of East San Jose are pretty bad. Mt. Pleasant high school is even named Mt. Pregnant and don't get me started on James Lick High School. That school is at the brunt of so many jokes. It's pretty much a joke itself. However, these areas are definitely not as bad as what I've seen in urban areas of LA and Oakland.

In regards to Santana Row, I didn't know that it was gang-infested. It was definitely before my time then. That area is pretty nice today as you already know. I drive by the Winchester Mystery House and Santana Row at least every few months to get the A4 checked up on at the Stevens Creek Audi dealer.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you move back to the South? San Jose is pretty awesome for the most part.

We didn't give ourselves those hyphenated names. Well we actually did come up with "African American" thanks to Jesse Jackson. But we call ourselves that because prior to the 1980s we were called Negros, Afro-American, Colored, etc. It's not like we never wanted to be called just Americans. I personally see myself as just black.

^^ Well the honest truth is after high school I moved away from my friends and family out there, to get away from things which may have lead to my incarceration or early demise. It was a good choice. Now that is in the past, and I wouldn't object to moving back out there.

I've heard lots of people here say that white privilege still exists but honestly I can't agree. I don't really feel privileged being white in America. For example some minorities can get government-given scholarships and social benefits for being a certain race, I can't.

It's a world wide problem, the white race is self-extinguishing.
My girlfriend and I are going to have as many children as we can.

Yeah affirmative action is discrimination, no matter how you look at it.

It's still there but I suppose some people are ignorant towards it and others just don't benefit as much as others from it.

Affirmative action is a touchy subject but I'll say it hurts certain minorities too. I've heard people claiming it actually benefits white females (since females are supposedly a minority) the most but I'm not sure how much truth there is to that.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or not cause white women get affirmative action too lol....it's been said they have benefited the most from it.

It's for all minorities. Not just based on race. How can you say that when statistics show you white women have caught up more on white men in education and salary than any person of color.

As a foreigner I have never been able to understand why someone whose skin is black, yellow, brown or whatever color has to be regarded as a better person than someone with a white skin.

Why do females deserve more chances than males? Affirmative action is one one of the most horrible institutionalized means of discrimination of the XXI century.

whites don't notice it for a few reasons:

they only hang out with white people,

they feel like life gets easier actually because they will feel more attractive, white women will feel like they are really attractive because they will go up in the level of average attractiveness as less euro variety enter the market

guys will feel taller, more attractive too since there will be more latinas always hitting on them

they will be offered jobs favorably still even more so than before..

so they will not feel it till it's too late

By that time I guess the world will be quite different, all races will probably have the same fertility rate and whites will remain about 45-50% of the population. Latin America is entering a demographic transition towards subreplacement fertility rates. I mean Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Costa Rica and Uruguay have a lower birthrate than the US. Mexico is just above replacement 2.2 and going down. Only Central America and Andean countries have relatively high birthrates.

Also I read that as many people leave the country as the ones entering. The migration rate between US and Mexico is supposedly 0 right now.
