Default Does albinism predominate in any country or region of the world?
Does albinism occur more in specific populations than others? Is albinism seen as a norm or an accepted "minority" in those regions where it predominates?

I've seen Albinos in Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Angola (these are the countries that I visited, and as you can see 2 West Africans and one Southern African country).

Any more than the other? How were the Albinos treated there?

Angola definitely, I don't know how there are treated but in comparison to Haiti, I'm pretty sure they are better treated in those countries. I even saw an albino rastaman.

I don't know, probably not. But that question would make an interesting thread...

Maybe among the Kuna people of Panama? They are revered, so despite the rarity of the condition, it is not selected against like elsewhere. I think they may have the highest rate (it's still relatively low, though).

WOW!!! Thanks for letting me know this. I never knew and I'm disappointed in myself in not knowing this about my Panamanian Native neighbors.

Kuna people are reported to have the highest incidence of albinism in the world. According to Kuna legend, the albino people are called “moon children” and are given the responsibility of shooting arrows at the full moon. Since the moon controls the tide, and Kuna people live on small atolls, they’ve interpreted the presence of albinos as a gift from the gods to protect them from rising tides. I never ever even seen Albino Native people till now.

Kuna hair is probably thicker. I've seen other pics of Kuna albinos who have more white looking hair.

that kind of phenotype (Indianic) fits best with the pigment they usually have.

Non-white or non-caucasoid albinos looks horrible, more so than albinos from white/caucasian groups.
