All we have to do is look at the depictions inscribed on temple walls and sculpture, paintings and physical descriptions of people, mythological or non-mythological in Indic literature especially so the world famous work on aesthetics and sexual behavior, the Kama Sutra to know the ideal idea of beauty among Indians. As far as women are concerned, one invariably reads of or sees a woman that is heavy breasted, with a languorous gait, large or wide hips, with overall full features coupled with either sharp or slightly infantile/soft features and appealing facial features as an expression of the same ideal.
121.jpgCholaBronze.jpg14m6k9e.jpg Indians generally do prefer relatively light skin as an ideal - the preference for relatively fair skin is more of a deeply ingrained cultural aspect, rather than a penchant that is the by-product of colonialism or Westernization. One simply has to look at the various mythological figures and heroines in Hindu mythology to affirm a certain trend. For instance, Radha the companion of Lord Krishna is described as Jasmine bosomed. Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva is sometimes refered to as Gaura (golden) Rani (queen) or more commonly, Gauri. The Skanda Purana contrasts the goddess' demonic form Kaali with the aforementioned one. Apart from this general idea that golden (light brown) skin is beautiful, there are also few examples of dark skinned mythological figures who were known for their exceptional beauty. The much adored Lord Krishna was himself known as shyama (dark) - sundara (beautiful). Lord Rama of the Ramayana was said to be 8 Ft tall in stature, with long arms ideal for wielding heavy bows and appealing facial features. Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata was described as being extremely dark skinned (hence her other name; Krshnaa) but was described as having attractive facial features, fascinating breasts and a swan-like demeanor. The following was posted by another user elsewhere on the forum, but this'll make for good reference. As per the Kama Sutra, the following women are not to be enjoyed -
This would probably be the ideal type in the North-Western parts of the South Asian sub-continent- anushka_sharma_salwar_kameez.jpg_320_320_0_9223372036854775000_0_1_0.jpg5465143868_24801dbb01.jpg5496675525_98654f1531_z.jpg This in the Indo-Gangetic plains (Uttar Pradesh)- Sonakshi-Sinha-in-Dabangg.jpg And this, in South India- original_Gopika_46544f3889850.jpgkaruna22.jpgTrisha%20Krishnan%20sssssssaaaa.jpg |

In my country...they prefer someone who is racially ambiguous.
Generally, the guys would prefer petite, slim girls with long straight hair or with loose curls. They don't have a specific skin color type...but nothing too extreme. Usually, those who have a healthy golden to bronze color is sought after. Some prefer chinky eyes, and some prefer big doe-eyes, so it's not specific. The girls prefer guys who are tall slim but muscular...most models and actors I've seen should be ripped. I'm having a hard time answering this because of my personal preference, but I actually appreciate a tall Filipino guy with broad shoulders and tanned skin! It's a bit of a split personality...naughty vs nice. Men don't know if they'd rather choose the nice, girl-next-door type (read: virgin), or the sexy, curvy, bombshell type. It's the same for the women. |

I'm not sure if there is a single ideal of beauty here. But if there's one, she tends to be averageish looking (at least pigmentation wise)

Well, I know Angelina Jolie was voted so many times in a row as the sexiest woman in the world in Israel's only man's magazine, that they had to retire her.
![]() The top five in the 2009 survey(which is as recent as I could get online) are as follows: 5. Adi Himmelbloi(light Ashkenazi) 4. Noa Tishbi(dark Mizrahi) 3. Megan Fox(dark-haired Gentile) 2. Scarlett Johansson(light mixed Ashkenazi/Gentile) 1. Bar Refaeli(light Ashkenazi) Miri Bohadana(dark Sepharadi), Ninet Tayeb(Sepharadi), and Anna Aharonov(dark Ashkenazi), are usually near the top of the lists I've seen. I don't think they're really perceived as pretty as much as sexy, though. Monica Bellucci, Liv Tyler(I really don't get it), Luisana Lopilato, and Jessica alba are also often somewhere in the top 10-20, I think. Israeli Women like meddish looking men, usually(Noam Tur being a notable exception). |
