Default Does this man have the right to call himself German?
Jérôme Boateng - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%A9r%C3%B4me_Boateng

I would say he does culturally, although it's obvious that the half of his ancestors were not native Germans at all. But he was born here and/or brought up here from a German mother, then he is a German by right.

What do you think? Yes or not. Or, so what should he be considered in that case?

He was born in Germany. His mother is German. He was raised German. He's a German of mixed heritage.

I'd say there's more of a case to say Prince Boateng isn't German.

Easily yes. Any person that says otherwise just has some weird racial/political agenda to propagate.

Brothers.

Ethnically - No.
I could dig this, but you may need another word other than "ethnically" or at least a precise description, as that word has multiple meanings, sometimes only held together by cultural, national, or linguistic relationship (not even necessarily in conjunction). So in a sense, the fact that he's both culturally and nationally German could mean he's German "ethnically" by default. The distinction could be ancestry - in which case it's not "yes" or "no" but rather both yes and no. Or simple enough he's half - that always makes more sense than claiming one is neither, imo.

It's a matter of self-identity more than biology.

Compare with Barack Obama.

Born in the United States (...he was. get over it.), native white mother, foreign African father, raised by white mother in an upper middle class environment.

Born in Germany, native German mother, foreign African father, raised by white mother in an upper middle class environment.

Obama identifies as African-American, and thus, while being biologically mulatto, he chooses to be treated solely as a black man. (He put himself down as black on the Census when given a choice to do otherwise)

Boateng likes his Ghanaian heritage, but has never been to the country and identifies as a German. He refused to even consider playing for Ghana's national team, while his half-brother from the ghetto chose Ghana over Germany.

Conclusion: Boateng is more culturally German than Obama is culturally American.

Peoples are human beings and human beings are nationless. If he has anything about him that is natio / or innate that is off limits to nurture by 'mere' Germans then he is not 'merely' a person so he isnt German. I'd at least demand a lack of otherness to the 3rd or 4th generation. Someone who wont be applying for (foreign) nationalities (redundant expression) citizenship (Irish, Itaian or whatever) through a granny for example. Someone who has nowhere else to go must come first (if only for the threads subjects descendants becoming wealthier in that way than him).

He's biologically 50% German, so he has a right to call to be a German. Altough he's very African looking for a mullato in my perspective.

Same case as Bruno Alves who is half brazilian and born and raised here. I consider him portuguese, although everyone knows he is half brazilian.

He looks like a genuine Ostmark Inhabitant
/sarcasm off

You gotta be kidding me,that guy can call himself "Alien" (Not so far from truth) it is only about how dumb people would be to consider himself as a German.

It would be the same if i actually start to call myself Austrian while percentage of mine Austrian blood is below 20 % .

If that was the case than white or black americans aren't americans either since they aren't native. He has all the right to call himself german cuz he is even if he was full black which he isn't he still have all rights to call himself german

Remember everybody, Europeans aren't "Racist" and don't think in terms of "black and white"…

If he was raised in german ways then yes he's german,I think there was some sayings ~"it's not important who gives birth to you,it's important who raised you",if he's some parasite that clings to foreign ways and doesn't live according to german ways of life then no.

You say this while 50 years ago black americans had to go to the back of the bus,the only reason they got decent human rights in America is because they were used in the two world wars AND because of numerous protests, like the one involving the "back of the bus for you" .
