Default "It's basically over for Anglos"
A Texas demographer lays out the statistics for Whites in Texas. However, everything I have seen suggests the Hispanic majority will be poor, uneducated and won't be voting. Even though the demographics will change substantially over the coming decades, I seriously doubt there will be a change in demographics regarding wealth or political power. However, I think Whites will still run around acting like the sky is falling.

Texas demographer: 'It's basically over for Anglos'

Looking at population projections for Texas, demographer Steve Murdock concludes: "It's basically over for Anglos."

Two of every three Texas children are now non-Anglo and the trend line will become even more pronounced in the future, said Murdock, former U.S. Census Bureau director and now director of the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University.

Today's Texas population can be divided into two groups, he said. One is an old and aging Anglo and the other is young and minority. Between 2000 and 2040, the state's public school enrollment will see a 15 percent decline in Anglo children while Hispanic children will make up a 213 percent increase, he said.

The state's largest county - Harris - will shed Anglos throughout the coming decades. By 2040, Harris County will have about 516, 000 fewer Anglos than lived in the Houston area in 2000, while the number of Hispanics will increase by 2.5 million during the same period, Murdock said. The projection assumes a net migration rate equal to one-half of 1990-2000.

Most of the state's population growth is natural, Murdock told the House Mexican American Legislative Caucus today. About 22 percent of the growth comes from people moving to Texas from other states.

About 6 percent of the state's population is not documented, he said.

B y 2040, only 20 percent of the state's public school enrollment will be Anglo, he said. Last year, non-Hispanic white children made up 33.3 percent of the state's 4.8 million public school enrollment.

Of the state's 254 counties, 79 recorded declining population during the past 20 years. All are rural. An additional 30 Texas counties, he said, would have also lost population had they not experienced Hispanic growth.

The state's future looks bleak assuming the current trend line does not change because education and income levels for Hispanics lag considerably behind Anglos, he said.

Unless the trend line changes, 30 percent of the state's labor force will not have even a high school diploma by 2040, he said. And the average household income will be about $6,500 lower than it was in 2000. That figure is not inflation adjusted so it will be worse than what it sounds.

"It's a terrible situation that you are in. I am worried," Murdock said. http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics...demograph.html

Assuming they don't lock the borders down beforehand which I think will happen in the next 4 years. Also, assuming that those Hispanics don't start learning and going to school then It is a scary prospect although..

this same topic was posted last week

I'm curious how implementation of the recent Arizona no benefits for illegals law works on it's Hispanic population.

If I'm alive in 30 years, and living in Texas, I'll worry about it.

But I don't put much stock into this kind of forecasting. You never know what the immigration trends will be in a generation or two.

It's sort of odd that he's referring to the white population as "Anglos". I thought that was a Americanized Hispanic catch all term for whites. Maybe that's a sign that it's already too late.

Who counts as an Anglo? From what I know the term is not the same as WASP, I've heard that Floridians use it to describe any White person of non-Hispanic origin, is that it's use here?

Either way, it seems to be fairly obvious that demographically the White man in America is fu****.

In this context, Anglos are non-Hispanic whites who speak English natively.

I am not a WASP.
I am an Anglo.

So basically the Anglo label is derived from your linguistic affiliations (i.e. English as a primary language)rather than your ancestry?

In fairness I think WASP is a bastardised term anyway. They'd be better off saying German-American, English-American, Scots-American etc

The first thing that strikes me from the opening line is the fact that many whites in Texas aren't "Anglo" to begin with, kinda weakens the further scare mongering he goes into...

Yes they are. If they speak English, they're Anglo.

I still don't want to be referred to as "Anglo" either way, even though I may speak English.

So basically blacks, whites, Asians and even... settled Hispanics, are being replaced by Hispanics? doesn't quite pack the same symbolic punch that "Anglo" does I'll admit...

and? anglosaxons is just a name to put together both angles and saxons. The former came from denmark/north german border and the latter were originally from eastern netherlands and northwest germany. Yet not even in East anglia, the place with more germanic influence they made up a majority.. even in places such as norfolk or kent around 65% + of dna was tested of native briton origin. You guys are far from being anglosaxons deal with it...

I... don't want to be Anglosaxon.

My point is that the context of the original post is that Anglo refers to white people who speak English natively. That is to say, the majority of Americans.

yes but it was mentioned the irish werent anglosaxon? dont they speak english aswell? cause if we go for the origianl tribes of angles and saxons... even normans probably had more impact in the Isles than the former groups mentioned.

People who refer to themselves as anglosaxons in the US and Uk look like shit compared to real anglosaxons in their respective home countries.

There are no Anglosaxons anymore. They're tribes from 1500 years ago that intermixed with other tribes.
