Default Do you think Iberians look similar to British Isles groups?
As much as some people consider Spanish and Portuguese to be very Mediterranean-looking and similar to other Southern Europeans like the Italians and Greeks, I personally think Iberians have greater overlap with the French, English, Irish, and Scottish in looks. Also genetically, Iberians are closer to Scottish or English than they are to an Italian or Greek.

Depends on the Iberians. Big peninsula with diverse ancestry groups depending on the region.

Most Southern Iberians (from say, Andalusia, Valencia, etc.) are more Mediterranean-looking, while many Galicians could easily pass for "British".

As an example, here is Colin Farrell. Does he really look much different than some of the Iberians with darker coloring you'd find?

Bad example. He has a "wog" phenotype anyway.

Irish, sure, but no Bruenn. It would be more accurate to say he looks like an Iberian than that Iberians look like him. Would you say, for example, that Esther could pass for Irish? Of course not... and yet people say she definitely looks Iberian.

Southwest French yes. Though I don't think a Spaniard look more like a Scottish than like an Italian.

In terms of coloring maybe not. In terms of actual facial features and facial structure, I'd say yes.

No but then again to me, the only Iberians she looks like are Azoreans and Madeirans and we know they have some minimal admixture.

No we don't. Although you'll find a few people desperate to make a connection between the two groups. A connection that doesn't exist, people should get over it.

But haven't Iberia and the British Isles been found to be related? I do think some people take it too far with drawing parallels but I also think the Mediterranean nature of Iberians is also blown out of proportion.

northern Spaniards look close to southern French while southern Spaniards and Portuguese have similar features but also have a consistent strain of dark skinned people. that's my personal opinion.
Spaniard posters seem to be insecure about it and always change subject or attribute the reason of these swarthyness to summer tan alone.

Related how?
They cluster closely together along with the French. Also, this leads me to believe there is a strong Celtic component in all 3 places along with the highest concentration of y-dna R1b in all of Europe.

No, iberians cluster somewhere between the french and north italians on all genetic plots i've seen. The brits cluster somewhere else far from us.
Celts were all over the place including Turkey. And R1b is found all over western europe too.

Do you have a map that demonstrates this?

Yes you can look at my position on 23andme or on McDonalds plot. Or you can browse through the Eurogenes thread and see more plots made by Polako.
Iberians cluster on that blank space around me on 23andme. Brits are all on the north of the plot.
On McDonald brits are close to Orkney.

I think it's a bit unfair that the French and the Brits are put together. I voted "French and British Isles" but mostly because of the southern French. It doesn't really answer the title of the thread.

Southern French people = Occitans = related to Northern Italians and to Catalans.

To lump Iberians in with Parisiennes and Britons simply because Southern France and Northeastern Spain are biologically and linguistically close is a bit much.

Well the question is who do they look more similar to, not who are they more biologically related to.

The two go hand-in-hand in this case.

fex. Sicilians look like Levantines and Greeks because we are Levantines and Greeks.

And I think the average Iberian looks more similar to a Welsh, English, or French person than to a Sicilian, Calabrese, Greek, Levantine, Albanian, or Maltese.
