Never, as some people might be afraid to be taken as racist cause of this, specially people from highly PC countries.

Not often at all. The majority of people I come across don't care about dinarids and sub-nordids. heh heh.

As far as black/white/hispanic/asians, race relations, etc., it only comes up in discussion if it's relevant to something else we're discussing. If it's the issue of some hot political topic or whatever. I hardly ever feel like discussing race over coffee for fun.

That's good a question, I'd also like to know myself.

As, for me every time I try, I either: A. Get called a racist. B. Get called weird. The common reaction is something along the lines of "Why do you care about that kind of stuff?"

However, lucky for me a lot of my real close friends are history buffs and are interested in this topic so I have no problems, but that's only when it's those few people. lol.

most of my friends are black or mexican so it comes up alot.we crack jokes on eachother alot.nothing super racist but we play off stereotypes sometimes.its always been like that.some cats you cant talk to like that because they get overly defensive so you got to pick and choose who you talk to.you just gotta know where your friends boundaries are.

Not very often, but I do feel that I can generally be candid with my very close friends. However with more casual friends/acquaintances, I would always watch my tongue and be careful about not pushing any deep discussions about race.

Not very open. A lot of Asian/ American/ African sub-groups who do live in the Philippines are very sensitive when they are being talked about, so as much as possible, we don't use racial slurs or any other demeaning names.

It's odd that the question in the title is different than the question you ask in your first post. It's like you changed your mind about what you wanted to ask in the span of a few seconds but didn't bother to fix the title. Who knew making a thread would be so complicated.

Title question:

How openly do you talk about race in real life with your friends? Talking about la bombe showing a touch of boobage in her avatar would be a more interesting conversation than race. Most people aren't interested in talking about race. They're more interested in work and how they will spend their leisure time.

Question from your post:

Just curious, like how openly do you talk about race in your area? It rarely ever happens because it makes people uncomfortable. The thing about socializing is you don't bring up topics that will make people uncomfortable.

By the way... la bombe, why do you have the Spanish flag and not the Mexican flag considering your ancestry is from New Mexico and Hispanics from New Mexico, although pretty much a cultural isolate, have ties with Northern Mexico? A very rich culture, by the way. I enjoy New Mexican folk tales, which are like Spanish folk tales but with a Native American flavor.

Okay, back on my vacation...

Mexican or not, the majority of the ancestry from that side comes from Spain. Oh and I like the Spanish flag better, it's prettier. And I agree about New Mexican culture, it's pretty interesting. I love learning about the Native tribes from there, especially the Pueblo tribes from the region where my family is from.

I don't talk about/discuss it, per se.... but its mentioned/brought up daily. I think that's how it is for everyone (as much as people don't like to admit it). For example... fyne black chick with a nice ass walks by; me and my friends (diverse group) stare. White friend says "sistahs and asses"....... DING! We've just talked about 'race.' See my point?

Now as for deep discussions about race/race relations/etc., that typically only happens when we get into politics (ex. election of Obama).

Too openly.

I vetoed a black kid coming to my NYE party last night because I didn't know him well enough and didn't want to be held responsible if I said something racist.

And I did. Lots of it. Mostly about Hispanics, though, as my Mexican neighbors called the cops on us and then gave a thumbs up when I saw them. There were a few Latinos at the party and they weren't offended, so I only felt encouraged to continue.

I lack a filter. I just say what comes to me, consequences be damned. To be fair, my intention is always to crack a joke and I don't mean any harm by it.

Same here... spics/niggas/curries/honkies/chinks = everyday vernacular.

In PR these things aren't very spoken around, because of some who are ignorant, others consider it as taboo, or other could label you a racist.

With family I can and do but it tends to rely on vague ideas.

With Anglo society around me I try to when I get to know a person and it comes to mind but they find it sort of weird and uninteresting.

Quite a lot with my inmediate family, as we tend to be very un-PC about things, relationships and shite. At work, though, it's often tied with politics, and people often seek my opinion, rather than the other way around, it's the downside of being known as being very knowledgeable and vocal about things.
