Default Should this father be punished?
A central Florida man angry that his daughter had been the victims of school bullies turned bully himself, caught on surveillance cameras when he boarded a Seminole Countyschool bus and started screaming at the children to leave his kid alone. His rant bought him a trip to jail.

James Jones ordered the kids aboard the bus to sit down, and after asking his daughter to identify the kids who had been bothering her, threatened to kill a child who "fought her".

The whole incident was caught on tape by the security cameras on the bus. The driver is shown allowing Jones on the bus, and doing nothing as he makes his threats.

Jones told deputies a student threw an open condom in his daughter's hair and kids were laughing at her. Video later obtained by CBS affiliate WKMG showed a student picking up what appeared to be a condom from the aisle of the bus, and dropping on Jones' daughter's hair. The bus erupted into laughter as the girl tried to get the condom out of her hair

Jones later said he could not accept his daughter being disrespected by every child on the bus.

Officials say he crossed the line between concern for his daughter and the rights of the kids not to be threatened.

Thursday, Jones was charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing a school function, and briefly jailed. He was released on bond from Seminole County Jail later in the day.

NO. I think he should not be punished. I feel so sorry for him, he shouldn't have done what he did however given the circumstances, him yelling at those little shits is nothing compared to what they did to his daughter. Honestly, what kind of person wouldn't be pissed? He should have handled it differently, but if he's punished or served prison time, it's going to be fucked up.

Neverrr!

He did only his Fatherly proper thing in protecting his little daughter. What's wrong with that? I would kill someone who endangers my family without second thought, but hey - I am no christian

I like that he did what he did BUT you cannot just get on the bus threatening to "kill" kids. Bravo to him doing it though.....These days kids are committing suicide over bullying. "Disorderly Conduct" and a few hours in jail or community service or whatever fits the "offence" just fine.

Gay kids are committing suicide over bullying.

They're too sensitive. They'll cut themselves over just about anything.

He could be punished as long as parents of the children who bullied his daughter plus teachers who never saw anything/ bus driver who never saw it- would be punished. Otherwise- no.

No.

A father in a small place in Sweden took his rifle three years ago and shot some teenage boys who had bullied his disabled son for a long time. One or two were killed, the other wounded.

Average people also thought he did the right thing.

i think this is abit too much, i mean shooting them but i do find it justified if he would give a slap or two and threaten them

11-1 in the poll so far. Seems like people such as me and you guys have the high level of common sense that the U.S. justice system doesn't.

He probably will get some sort of punishment though, in the US they take threats of any kind very seriously =(

If it were my daughter that were abused this way, I would obtain the contact details of the father of the child who did this, go round his house and re-arrange his 'phenotype', I would not hit a child, but that who brought him up.

if it was a group of kids, you would find all (eg) 5 fathers and hit all of them? :P
plus it depends on the kids age.

He should get a slap on the wrist, maybe.

Since when did it become 'illegal' to protect your children?? Crazy world we live in…

Oh yes I'm not an aggressive person but my sister knows what I've done for her in such situations.

But kyte, it's not always the parents fault. The kid just might have just started copying what other kids were doing.

Also would you risk going to jail for 6 months to do that?

I would never hit a child, that is part of who I am. If jail is a possibility, I'd speak to the children's fathers and tell them to train their scum. I'm not an animal. If I got back talk, then I'd go about a different way and go for the six months.

I agree. One of my friends was seriously into drugs a few years ago (she moved away last year). I knew her family and they were awesome, her dad especially was a great guy.

She always used to hang out with the wrong people and that's what got her into drugs. Her dad found out what she was doing and who she was in contact with, and broke her boyfriends arm, literally beat him to a pulp, and two other boys who were with him. Her got charged for attempted murder, he's still in jail now. I feel so sorry for him, he was a great father.

She was 17 and her boyfriend was 21...he was giving her alcohol, drugs, etc. She kept relapsing and running away from home with him, It came to the point where her mom called me and told me to stop hanging out with her because she was afraid I would get into trouble.

bullying is for low self esteem pricks.i wish more people would stand up to them then that do.i remember this kid who had cp and had leg braces would get picked on alot and it really angered me because my cousin has cp and its just not right to mess with kids who have conditions like that.i really dont understand why somoene would be so cruel as to fuck with the helpless.i mean the dude could barely walk let alone defend himself.

should this man get in trouble? hell no.he was acting out of frustration because,as usual, the schools were doing nothing and she as coming home after being spat on and crying and shit.that isnt somethin that ANY real man would sit back and take.

props to this dude.

it is understandable his frustration and for any jury to convict or even for a prosecutor to try him is in my book ridiculous.

That is a common story where I'm from; it's pretty pathetic on the part of greater 'Society' that Law protects little douchebags like that. I probably would do the same as that girl's father did… but I'd also HOPE to teach my daughter who to avoid to begin with. It's not always that easy though.

Sometimes it seems Law protects criminals more than citizens…

I agree Unome. But, in this case (and I was a witness to how they parented their daughter) they were very good, strict parents. Her dad wouldn't allow her to have a boyfriend until she was 18 and they barely let her sleep over at other people's houses. They kept taking her phone away, but she was always giving them attitude, yelling at them and running away.

It's scary though, to think you could be a great parent, only for your kids to make such dumb choices, and having the justice system fuck your family over when you decide to do something about it.
