Wikipedia
Northern Europe is the northern part or region of Europe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Europe
Nordic countries or Nordic region include only a subset of the mentioned countries and territories.

Pohjamaalane go to sleep, tomorrow is a new day. And you can take your head out of that vise, I'm pretty sure your skull is narrow enough allready.

Finns are more worried about being Nordic than Estonians, huh?

Anyway, synop posted a link related to vikings. Google "Estonian vikings" and then Google "Finnish vikings" There were no "Finnish vikings", while Estonian vikings were very active and even sacked and burned down the former Swedish capital. Estonian vikings were called VĂ*kingr frá Esthland in Old Norse Icelandic sagas and in the Heimskringla.

Yes I'm super worried, you nailed my thoughts exactly.

If you want to get a very fast reply from a Finn, then tell him that Finns aren't Nordic. If you want to get a very fast reply from an Estonian, then tell him that Estonians are Balts.

tbh I don´t know if the majority of Finns even really care. Most are probably happy to just be referred to as Finns. And neither am I convinced that all Estonians get particularly offended by being called Balts.

I would be really happy if the majority of people in the world wouldn't think that I am a Slav or a Balt and would just refer to us as Estonians.

Nordic refers to the Nordic countries, the northwestern European countries of Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden), as well as Iceland and Finland; or a native of one of the Nordic countries.

Indeed. Typical forumbiodiversity, three pages of bullshit before somebody finally bothers to give a simple answer to the question at hand.

I'm certain that all of us already knew the political/geopolitical definition of Nordic, but CWF wanted to be Mr. Obvious.

And this definition is what people in real life usually relate to in general.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Greenland is the only (autonomous) Nordic country without any Nordic people(disregarding the 7000 Danes) living in it, in the same sense as Estonia is the only Baltic country without any Baltic people(disregarding the 4000 Balts) living in it.

Yes, but Greenland is only included because it (autonomous or not) belongs to Denmark and has strong Danish influences as well as the 7000 ethnic Danish inhabitants you mentioned.

As I said, Greenland is Nordic although the native inhabitants(Inuits) aren't Nordic in the same sense as Estonia is Baltic although the native inhabitants(Estonians) aren't Baltic.

Karl, I can assure that I do not need anyone. I don't have a need to belong to anything. Thank you very much, muchos gracias, I can take care of myself. You can call a boy a man, but he'll still be a boy and he knows it in his heart. Karl, boys think gangs are cool, men know better. It's a fucking label, a word, it should not mean anything to anyone who has any self respect.

Calm down, my Finnish friend, I didn't want to insult you, I am sorry if I did.
