What would you do? Or rather what do you think you would do?

This is a completely hypothetical question. Let's say you were stranded on an island, just you and a complete stranger you have no ties to. They were being "friendly" and optimistic, waiting for help to arrive but deep down both of you know help won't arrive for at least a few weeks. This "other person" also is assured of not harming you. All you have on you are basic clothes, a pocket knife and a gun loaded with two bullets. There is a spring and enough fresh water for both of you but the few fruits you could scavenge off trees, you've already eaten. There's no wildlife on the island and there are extremely dangerous fish like sharks surrounding the island. Basically, you are dying of starvation and there is nothing to eat. You can't build a raft because the wood available in the area are too thin.

You know the only way for you to survive would be to kill the other person... and eat them. It would allow you to survive long enough for help to arrive. Since your gun is loaded with only 2 bullets, it would be pointless to waste it trying to kill a large fish. You know you could use the gun to kill the other person in their sleep, you won't have to be violent. You could do it really quick and for whatever purpose (saving them or eating them). You could also use the gun to put yourself out of your misery afterwards.

Or... you could resist the urges and let whatever may happen, happen. You would die of starvation, but at least you didn't resort to cannibalism. Of course I don't think any of us can say for sure what we would do because it's one thing when you're in your comfy home writing and in the wild dying of hunger.

As for me, I don't think I have it in me to kill another human being, let alone eat them. No matter what, I don't think I could ever bring myself to do it. It seems too crazy for me, but who knows?

It's hard to say, people usually change after being starved for a while, ask the Andeans or the defendents in R v Dudley and Stevens before the events and they probably would have told you they would rather die. In the latter case, the shipwrecked guys went days and days without any food before deciding that they should kill the dying man. Starvation would probably change my opinion but as it is I would rather shoot myself.

Of course I would eat the guy. In other case when I would think about moral aspects of cannibalism etc. he would stab me and do the same. Why should I expect that he won't kill me ? It's not even about starvation, if I don't do that he will.

Yeah, assuming you had enough materials/skill for the kayak you would be eaten by those sharks I mentioned. seriously though, the reason I made the question with so much detail would be so people wouldn't try to wiggle around the question. haha.

Oh, there are sharks around. Let me then rephraze my answer: No I would not eat the poor fellow. I would use him as a shark bait. Then eat the shark, then make a kayak out of shark leather and sail to freedom.

edit. Note that I would not need any wood material for my boat as by now I would hace plenty of bone material, to use as a exoskeleton for my trusty little vessel.

Shark bait huh? Assuming you were actually brave enough to face a shark (which I highly doubt), how are you going to catch it without any materials? Are you going to make a sword out of thin wood?

This is stupid because the poll options are insufficient. I would take my chances with the sharks and dive for shell fish and try to catch other types of fish. The odds of dying in a shark attack are only 1 in 300 million. The odds of being killed in a car accident are 1 in 18,000 and by by heart disease 1 in 7. It is probably more dangerous to happily drive, a car, after two or three beers at 3 a.m., and eat endless bags of potato chips than it is to fish on that island.

I would make a spear out of ribgage bone of the poor fellow. It would be a scimitar style spear. Very effective against sharks, oragutans and oompa loompas.

The odds of dying in a shark attack mean nothing if you're going right towards one. And how are you going to attack the shark without materials? Do you expect it to just stay still while you punch it?
