They have been deporting foreign criminals guilty of serious offences in the UK for years now. This is nothing new, this only shows how behind the Swiss are compared to the UK in that respect.

The law will probably only apply to people who are not Swiss citizens. If so then Swiss citizens of foreign descent guilty of serious crimes wont get deported, and even then the foreigners who committed 'non serious' crimes wont get deported either.

My grandparents and their children did not come to the UK out of their own pocket. The British government paid for my family to come to the UK towards the end of the 1950's. They flew to Britain by aeroplane. Of course only a privileged few had this honour bestowed upon them.

The difference is that unlike the UK, swiss citizens of foreign origins (I think that's what you meant by descent) are pretty rare in Switzerland.
