(I like this one the best! )

---------- Post added 2010-10-30 at 15:48 ----------

But are those stereotypes putting away credibility away from Asians or at least on an even playing field as with other ethnicity?
Asian is an Ethnicity now?

I really need to keep-up with Anthropological categorizations these days…

Anybody notice that Amerikan females are becoming more & more sexually attracted toward Asian males over the past few years??

(Maybe it is just me and I'm imagining things?)

I think the stereotype goes both ways: Asians are seen as 'feminine'. This is the stereotype.

But many white girls are going after asian guys, from what I've seen anyway.

Asian men are getting more exposure in media especially in hip hop music and break dancing, comedy etc. etc.. They're are setting leading some new trends in popular cultures, that could explain it.

The only negative media bias I'm aware of in the United States is that they imply that Asian men are sexually inadequate geeks and that women would prefer more macho black/white/Latin men.

Asians are not depicted, at least here, as more prone to commit crime, or to lack intelligence, or to be sexually promiscuous. Asians, from India to Indonesia are treated as exotic (due to their relative lack of numbers in the United States compared to the other racial groups), but in a mostly positive light.

Most asian people I knew while I was in Canada were insecure little cowards. Always saying sorry and afraid of doing something wrong out of fear of being judged.

99% of them were korean or japanese.

The stereotype of Asians in Mexico is that they all ( Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, etc) look the same and are very smart. Hehe to be honest, I can't remember hearing something negative about Asians. And most of what we see on TV and in the movies comes from the US.

P.D. I just remembered this song from Monty Python about Chinese people

There's always going to be bias or stereotypes about other peoples. In any case, asians have it really easy because in the end they are always perceived as 'harmless' and hence not problematic. Way better than other groups such as arabs for example, who are considered the scum of the world.

Yeah exactly! one of positive stereotypes is that we're the "model minority" and we assimilate easily, are highly educated, hard working and we don't try to stand out like other groups. White and Asian people usually get along pretty well especially for those that went to good colleges/Universities because Asians makeup a large percentage of Ivy league and other Tier-1 schools. I see a lotta Asian guys in white fraternities and even a few white guys in Asian fraternities. The more educated you are the more tolerant you become. Racism stem from ignorance and stupidity.

I guess Asians are wiser than you :

"It is a wise thing to be polite; consequently, it is a stupid thing to be rude. To make enemies by unnecessary and willful incivility, is just as insane a proceeding as to set your house on fire. For politeness is like a counter--an avowedly false coin, with which it is foolish to be stingy."

I only can say I like Asian culture(especially japanese) but I don't know about how media portrays asian people besides the known stereotypes.
There is no such thing as "Asian culture".

Japanese share a lot of cultural traits with Viets, Chinese, and Koreans due to shared contact with China, Confucianism, similar type of Buddhism, but they don't share many traits at all with Indonesians, Cambodians, Filipinos, etc.

That is like saying "I like African culture".

Bitterender is right the media thrives on stereotypes, but these stereotypes are the ones that elite white (often Jewish) New Yorkers and Hollywood types hold and they transmit them around the globe.

Maybe you didn't notice that the american media(and popular culture) trolls everybody who's not american? Btw I recently saw some chinese movie that shows some major bs about europeans and especially has the "french are cowards" stereotype,it's a really really bad movie anyway,I would rate it 1/10 based on historic accuracy, the flaming racism and bs towards europeans and japanese and the overall acting and story and fight scenes! but I saw on IMD the chinese(probably the ones that worked on the movie) spammed with high rates and has a 6.1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_...n_of_Chen_Zhen

I meant, they also said sorry when they did nothing wrong.

The mass media's distortions of Asians have been decried far too often to bear repeating here. In a nutshell, though, they center around sexualizing and cheapening Asian women while simultaneously desexualizing and dismissing Asian men. Suffice to say that instances in which the U.S.-based media portray us fairly are so rare as to draw stunned disbelief each time they are encountered.

Why this persistent assault on the culture and phenotype of a third of humanity? Some spy the heavy hand of moguls seeking economic advantage in portraying Asian competitors as inferior, and therefore, unworthy of trust, patronage or investment. Others see a conspiracy to keep down a race whose burgeoning global influence threatens in due course to overshadow that of white western peoples. A history of wars against Asian nations, sexual rivalry, economic scapegoating, xenophobia and simple ignorance are other often cited factors.

Share your insights on the subtle and gross workings of the mass media's apparent crusade against the Asian image.
In US sure, but not so much in europe.

Agreed with the bold but the portion in red I don't think is something people believe. Asians are seen as good law abiding people but who stick to their culture, language, customs almost stubbornly, or at least that's how people feel around my area.

Thing is, many Asian males probably resent being considered 'harmless'.

Yes, but it is harder going from being considered violent to non-violent than the other way around.

I don't see anything about Europeans in the summary.

You're right though, Asians generally hold many negative stereotypes about whites, just browse through a few (English-language) Asian forums. However, I think this is offset by a certain measure of fascination and respect that you can clearly notice, for example, in some forms of contemporary Japanese culture. They definitely have their own stereotypes and even fetishes when it comes to other races.
