Following the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911, the population were let off the hook, and in the absence of a strong, centralised government the country returned to savagry and war-lordism, not much better than a black negroid country like the Congo.
Ony was order essentially restored upon the Communist Party winning the civil war, the country needed a strong central government to control the population from their barbarian ways. Perhaps the Chinese have evolved since 1911, but in the grand scheme of things that is not a very long time ago. If a new government emerged in China that gave people more personal freedoms, and was less of a police state how long do you think it would be before dissident groups allowed freely to form would stage coups and start murdering people? The European nations are at a higher level of intellectual enlightenment. If the central government fell in a European country and they were left without any effectual rule, I am quite certain the majority of people would be kind and civil with each other. Not so for the Chinese. |

The Chinese are not much different from the Russians, except that they're more intelligent and harder workers. That being said, you're right. I don't see a non-totalitarian state being able to work in China for a prolonged period of time. That's why they experiment with economic freedom but not with social freedom. They don't wish to become a corrupt failing state like Russia is.

I agree, but it's not for the same reason. China has existed for thousands of years. The EU is a botched attempt at creating a United States of Europe and incorporate many cultures that are significantly different under a single umbrella. The EEC should have been left alone, but men are fallible and government always attempts to increase its power.
Poles and Swedes may have had the same rulers in the past (under the Vasa) but they couldn't be more different, politically, linguistically, or spiritually. |

The Chinese are not much different from the Russians However, while not to the same extreme as China, Vladimir Putin restored some of the totolitarian nature of the old Soviet government and through this cut violence drastically and got Russia back on its feet. |

Present totalitarism in China has only one aim: keeping Empire. If the rule of communist party was abolished the peoples of Tibet and Eastern Turkiestan would try to liberate themselves from the Han occupation.

It's true, the beds were in closets. That's just the way they were, and I don't know how it was in Poland at that time. Wooden shoes have been popular all the way to WWII, after which they became less popular - and they were mostly a rural thing anyway. We still have wooden shoes for certain work, but they're not really made of wood any more, just the soles in some cases. Not that is has anything to do with China anyway. |

It's like Jackie Chan said:
"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not," Chan said at the Boao Forum. "If you're too free, you're like the way Hong Kong is now. It's very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic." Chan added, "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want." I don't necessarily dis/agree but I was surprised he said that so openly. |

The Chinese economy is also already large and rapidly growing. It's too late. Here's a rambo knife and grenade, good luck, go sort the mess out you armchair crusader. |

Tibet and Xinjiang have been part of China for centuries, merely having a different language does not entitle one to nation status. How about you evil Poles give those oppressed and occupied Silesians their country back? Or is that different? |

Merely having a different language... For your information, Uyghurs are Turkic and completely different from the Chinese, and have been so for thousands of years. |
