The main trade going through Gonder was from the Nilotic lowlands and Sudan. From Gonder most goods would leave the Horn through Mitsiwa, maybe some through Zeila, but during Gonder's eminence the Southern ports were less used. It wasn't until the 19th c. and the resurgence of Shewan dominance that the Zeila route became important again.

[QUOTE=slick willy;100884]"Ethiopian" is not an ethnicity, while "Somali" is... some Ethiopians are Somali.
1) Somalis are one of the most homogeneous people on the planet Somalis are one of the most homogeneous people on the planet? This I have to hear. Somalis have a good deal of Caucasian Female Dna while Almost all E1b1b Male DNA. How Homogeneous are Somalis if they have a good deal of Caucasian Haplogroups? I would have thought Polynesians, Aboriginals, Native Americans, The Irish, The Ainu, & Many others would be. |

No doubt Ethiopians..somali's are pure cushtic depending on which clan..some are pure..some have mixed...(who hasn't in east africa lol)..and some adopted the somali identity..remember somali is a lingiustic term not an ethnic group. The correct term to use for ethnic grouping in somali will be something like "DIR" etc....there are few bantu in somalia but like i said they are somali in linguistic term just like many are arabs who aren't (fur, berbers etc.)or chinese but they are not huns chinese (tibet, ugher turks etc.)
