Default Rugby World Cup 2007
http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/

It finally started, and with a first clamorous result!
The Argies made it in France's own home, there was nothing the french could do against the pumas.
I was particularly impressed by Ledesma, a true giant, world's best hooker right now, no doubts.

And tomorrow Italy vs New Zealand...

Oh, and Chabal is in my opinion a truly overrated player.
Go get an haircut you hippie!

Richard McCaw is much better on that same position, or Rodney So'oialo to name another...

Yes, I know, they are going to chew us, we do not have too many illusions about that.
What's important for Italia is to win the other three matches of the pool against Portugal, Romania and Scotland, so that we can access the second stage of the tournament against the first team of the Pool D (probably Argentina).

He ho let's go!

Don't you mean England vs USA? That'll be worth watching! Seriously though, I hope Italy trounce the Kiwis. They and France are the favourites and we need them both to struggle giving us a chance to keep the Trophy. Actually, perhaps if everyone else dropped out we might, with the team we have now, just scrape a win - but that's not a given.

There are three English teams playing today in football, cricket and rugby. The first two are must-win games. Theoretically, we should beat the US at Rugby but they might cause another surprise. Johnny Wilkinson should be back for the match against South Africa.

Portugal should be a try-fest for Italy as they don't have any sort of track record in rugby. Scotland are not all that good although they did get out of the group stages last time. Romania shouldn't present too much of a problem so Italy should get through. Here's hoping you get through to play Argentina and thrash them!

Oh well, Portugal and Romania shouldn't be too much of a problem, but even if we ever make it through the Scots - which is something hard but not impossible - I don't think in all honesty that we could have too many chances against Argentina, I watched the match yesterday and saw them doing some absolutely remarkable things.
I think that our team is not that bad, and sure Argentina is a better option than New Zealand, Australia or England, but Italia is still missing that little something that teams like Argentina have attained. Call it self-confidence?
We will see what happens...

Concerning today's matches: England - USA, I say at least 40 points of difference; 50+ for Australia - Japan.

Bah, the French played like crap, that pisses me off. We gave the Argies all their ammo, and missed our chance of sticking back by penalty kick twice. Hope they'll do better. On the other hand, that's less than nothing compared to what happens to the poor Italians right now. That much hurt !

Well, we struggled against the US. We will have to do much, much better against South Africa.

Still, all three England teams won their games today so we shouldn't complain.

I was at a complete loss today. The idea of supporting England is obviously abhorent, but given the opposition being the US and Israel, I really didn't know what to do...

There was some seriously good rugby being played today. I hope it carries on like this.

In the scheme of play today, I hate to say it but the US deserved a win much more than we did . . . we had no drive or passion :-(

Go on! Just pretend that the English are Scots with funny accents. Funnily enough, we English are happy to support the Scots when they play against anyone but England.

Well yeah, but that's nowhere near as much fun...

I do not agree on this one because I think that there's a big difference between a team like France, third in the IRB world's ranking, hoster of the event, among the favourites and expected to reduce his opponent to shreds (Argentina is sixth in IRB world's ranking); and Italia, ninth in the IRB world's ranking, who never made it out of the starting pools, facing an opponent way too strong and titled (New Zealand is first in the IRB world's ranking).
The only complaint on Italia's side is to have lose with such a difference, sixty-two points are way too much, but the tactic was evident as engaging too seriously would have resulted in possible injuried players. Plans are to win against Portugal and Romania and then play the access to the second stage against Scotland, that will be a 50% - 50% match with both teams playing to the last try.
Getting back to France, with also Ireland in the same pool along with Argentina, who already won against them, who knows which teams will make it to the second stage?
