Don't know where you're moving from to live in Thailand but I think you're pretty brave to move a dog there, especially if you're comming from a colder climate.

I checked on bringing my Shar Pei when I moved over, and it didn't seem to tough to get her thru customs from what I understood, I had all her paperwork from the time she was born and she was always given the shots as they were due.
But like 4D says, I just didn't think that this was a good climate for her, so gave her care to a good friend of mine and she seems happy where she is, plus the fact that it wouldn't have been an enjoyable trip for her with over a day in the cargo areas and the hold of the planes.

This is only a personal view but I think moving a dog to Thailand is not really very fair on the dog especially if it's comming from the Western hemisphere.Firstly,there's the heat the dog has to contend with.Secondly there's the local dogs, 95% of which would have ticks, fleas,worms and goodness knows what else wrong with them.Sure, you can look after the animal by bathing,worming etc but eventually it will come into contact with another dog.I'd have thought it would be better to get a dog that was born in Thailand-at least then it could have a bit of built in immunity to all the inherhent problems associated with the local dogs.Cheers

Yeas 4D, I was agreeing with you. No place to be bringing a good dog, plus the ride over here in the belly of a plane and 24+ hours, mostly without water is a bummer.

Thailand can't be all bad! My wife's dog, a cocker spaniel is 18 years old, not bad when you consider that the life expectancy is 12 to 14.

BTW: He had 2 cysts removed in November. When we picked him up he was as sprightly as a puppy. http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/imag...lies/smile.png He is staying with the wife's best friend as we thought trying to bring him to the US would be far to stressfull. And, of course, she misses him terribly (not her family funnily enough).

And........, he is the only member of the wife's Thai family we support!

Getting a dog through Customs
 

I am moving to Thailand next month, and i want to bring my dog. Can anybody give me any information on what i need to do to clear Customs. I know that i will need a health certificate, and maybe some shots for the dog, but which shots , and special form, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

18 years is pretty good for any dog.Obviosly well looked after and I guess he was born there!

I took a Shar Pei to mexico and within a year I made a special trip to take her back up to Central Oregon, and the climate and health of street dogs is comparable to Thailand.
Skin infections and just didn't do as well as in a moderate climate,
But we have a nice Thai dog here and have no trouble if she is bathed once a month, but a dog that was born of an import that my wife owned needs a medicinal shampoo bath weekly or he starts to lose hair and looks scroungy, he looks like a German Drathar. [German wirehair pointer] but I don't think he is.
And I say again, I would require no dog of mine to ride in the belly of a plane for 24 hours+..
