I was wondering if anyone had any literature relating to ID cards in Thailand. I'd like to know when they were first introduced, for example, and the process you have to go through to get them.

I've not been able to find very much on the internet - there are references to 'smart cards' from around 2003, but surely ID cards are not only 6 years old in Thailand.

Any help would be appreciated.
