Khonrai, that all sounds very familiar -- but what about the dogs barking in the middle of the night?

Default Sounds of issan
HI

As I set in my quiet house in USA I think back to some sounds of Issan.

One thing I remember is the noise is loud.
when you first wake up in the morning to the rooster crowing at dawn.
and the rest of the family starts getting up and ready for work or school
then the loud speakers in the village start playing music at about 5:30 to 6 AM. Then the local government official start talking telling you news or what will be going on that day. Next the tractors and cars and bus's start going. then you hear the children laughing and talking heading for school." not a place for late sleepers" after all this I take the pillow off my head and get up.

after the few hrs of noise in the morning it quiets down. you go out and sit in the front of the house. everyone who walks by says hi some stop and talk the silence is broken quite often by small trucks with their loud speakers driving by selling produce or eggs or something. then you can't miss the sound of the local tractors. their one lung makeing a poping sound you can hear from far away.

but it is not all loud at night it gets quiet. too quiet you can hear your neigbors talking or the baby crying 3 house's down. so any maritial bliss has to be done softly LOL. that's why I love the sound of rain on the tin roofs
It is so loud you can make all the noise you want. and no one can hear.

At any festival prepare for loud music I mean really loud.and at shopping and in markets more loud music. and the people always talk loud also.

the noise in Issan is not offensive but a happy sound just takes a little getting used to.

On one visit some of the women in the village were practicing for a singing competetion. so each night I would fall asleep to the sounds of the choir
singing traditional folk songs, and then if we got a rain storm at night. I was a very happy man.

I agree on the radio playing music and all, some announcements in between also.
Dogs howl at night yes.
Haven't been in Isaan when it was raining. hahaha.
It gets really dark (with no street lights) at around 7-8pm and people there are either having their dinner or have already turned in for the day. It was the first time I slept so early in my life, 9.30pm. Because everything's so quiet, you don't wanna on the tv.

I wake up a lot through the night. Always there is the cows bell. Very light, just the donger rolling back and forth inside the bell with the cows breathing in the pen outside.
A rooster crows a kilometre away, and the competition starts. Volume rising as the closer roosters get in on it, and the crows roll away like a mexican wave. The dog barks as someone walks through our yard. Barking stops, all is well. Nighty night.

I go to sleep in Isaan around 10pm after my wife and I have finished chatting about the day and wake up around 9am to find the laundry done, the house cleaned and my breakfast waiting when I come out of the shower. Noise, what noise?

Isaan is just the same place in the province where my Father was born. At night is so quiet as still.

Bugs are making weird yet wonderful sounds, bullforgs and mosquitos lurking around the house.

Indeed the dogs who're barking at night sometimes annoys me, but somehow get used to it.

Khonrai? Did you experience in Isaan in which you hear people running like someones being chased off?

I usually finish work at midnight, go to bed at 2.30am and sleep til about noon, but after a few days in Isaan I usually manage to adapt to going to bed at about 9pm.

If not, I won't get any sleep at all.
