People start Kendo at all ages. I was at an event in Tampa over the summer, and I saw a little boy and a little girl who couldn't have been older than 8.

If you're lucky, your dojo will have classes set up either by age or rank. If not, you might find yourself at a disadvantage, depending on your physical build, but even then, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I haven't started yet Maybe in a couple of years. But It really doesn't matter when you begin. You should adjust your goals to your abilities. You shouldn't try to become world champion when you start at the age of 65, that kind of thing. You should try to become the best (swordsman) you can be and not care about the progress of every one else. And you should have loads of fun, that's the most important thing.

Alot of the guys at my dojang started in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and they all enjoy it. I think most of the people on this board wished they started kendo at 13, I know I do. I started at 18 and can allready feel the old age setting in (yeh, its pretty sad).

you are never to old or to young to start,
i restarted this year iam 46

pls remeber kendo is not a race........it will always be here

kendo is not about beating your opponent (well mostly not it helps, it is not the be all and end all ) its about beating yourself
just enjoy yourself
treat it as seriously as you can but above all enjoy it

I feel a little annoyed when I hear people talking like: "I wish I had found Kendo earlier", "I wasted my life until now, etc. etc..."
This is just silly.
The past is gone, and the present hasn't happened yet.
There is only now.
True, there are some definite benefits for starting anything at an early age, but that alone does not ensure any more of a profound level of mastery, or any more of a deeper understanding.
The important thing is, and what really matters is, you found Kendo!
Into that last sentence, you can also insert anything else which brings you joy, allows for tremendous personal growth, and builds strength and character.
My feeling is, it's never too late, or too early to engage in that which is good in this world.

Trust me, starting kendo at your age is a good move. You are at an age where you body is still developing so you will be more supple than most of us old farts. You'll be more energetic so you'll get more out of keiko by virtue of being able to put more in (er, if you see what I mean). And you still live at home which means that you can get your folks to fork out for your armour.

Sweet!
