i dunno, this is like the 2nd or 3rd time ive read an article just like this. kinda mkes me think its just a hoax like gang initiators flashing high beams or syringes in phonebooths and gas handles.

dont get me wrong, i know koreans are fanatical about starcraft and other games like that. but still. seems ludicrous.

Wow.

I once heard a story of a kid who played Silent Hill one night and started having seizures because of how disturbed he was. Despite his parents waking up hearing him almost immediately, they couldn't help him in time. He died from the seizures(he stopped breathing).

Creepy.

Now I know that Korea is video game crazy.

There was an even better (or worse) story a while ago. It involved a man stalking and killing another person because he stole a sword from him in a game.

Part of the article said,

"Computer games are enormously popular in South Korea, home to professional gamers who earn big money through sponsorships and television stations devoted to broadcasting matches."

I know on the weekends on KBS and MBC (local stations) (here in Seoul) they have shows where individuals and teams square off in a video game battle royale! I think the winners actually get prize money and that some individuals have a fan club.

i saw a show a couple of years ago where they had this one person getting a "professional gamers certificate" at an awards ceremony. It was the first time i'd actually seen such a thing. I thought it was a hoax when i first saw it.
