... I was having dinner at home and the evening news suddenly jumps to show the IOC meeting live from Singapore. Almost sprayed the bowl of soup I was holding when the result was announced.

And then the camera switched to the mad crowd under Nelson's Column... Real time news is so overdoing these days...

******
Seriously, I don't think London's transportation is good enough for it. Over 100+ years of development and it's still not reliable enough...

London's trains can't be worse than Sydney's right?? Over here 10 minute delays during peak hours are the norm. After 9pm, can wait up to 40 mins to get to outer suburbs.

I must say though during Sydney 2000 the train service was really good. Bit of cash injection and olympic fever can make a huge difference!

Don't the British explode if exposed to sunlight?

It absolutly sucks. 7 years of chaos and 20 years (if we're lucky!) of even more taxes for 6 weeks of hype and overpaid athletes.

Bah!

yes, finaly the Olympica have come home to london! . yeh so what we have a victorian train and bus system, we also have a neo-Maoist communist mayor willing to raise income tax to 500 percent so he can make London look good infront of the world, and we have a prime minister who can start a few wars and use the money from that to build another milenium dome

You have to be careful with the filters and the exposure time. We are currently experimenting here with exposing Britons to as much as three hours of indirect sunlight per day. Unfortunately, that's all we seem to get most of the time.

Hey JSchmidt,

I was a cynic for a while when Sydney won (like lots of Sydneysiders). I held out and didn't buy tickets... then I got caught up in it all, managed to get tickets for heaps of events and had a great time! No longer was I a cynic.

I imagine that London will sort out its stuff and will have "The Best Olympics Ever".

Is the Millenium Dome still in use? I kept on hearing rumours that it was going to close down or something.

Btw, how's the London Eye situation? Last I heard the government agency owning the land it sits on is trying to jack up the rent to exorbitant levels?

The Best thing about it all is that we beat the French!

No offence to any French members of the forum, but it is instincutual for all Englishman to enjoy any Victory we have over France (probably thanks to Agincourt ).

All joking aside...our hearts go out to our friends in London today.

Not really surpised that London beat Paris over the bid, and none of the other three cities really had a chance.

Congratzs Britian,
when we won the winter olympics bid, they pronounced our city as Bang-couber instead of vancouver. we got really excite but there were other people who resented the idea because they want the money to go to medical service. it really sucks, 6-9 months of waiting for an operation to be done. by that time, you're almost dead.

the millenium dome is a joke, they wasted so much money making it they dont have enough money to take it down whilst its running up a debt, so they make it a homeless shelter and a casino once every few months and the rest of the time Tony Blair uses it to test out the acoustics of his fart
