when I grow up....
just as a neat little topic:
What did you always wanted to be when you were small? Did your dreams come true? If you're still young what do you want to be? I want to be a doctor or an astronaut *sigh* dreaming is my life....http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink2.gif |

Inuyasha,
You're 13: Doctor and Astronaut are well within your reach if you wish to pursue either. It's all a matter of determining your goals and working to achieve them. As for me...I grew up in Dallas, Texas, so I suppose it's fairly natural that I'd want to play professional (American) football for the Cowboys. I played through high school, but didn't have the size to be competitive at the collegiate level, so a career in professional football was out. Fighter pilot was my next objective, but I didn't have 20/20 vision at a time when there was such a glut of pilots in the Air Force that I couldn't get a waiver. I stuck with the Air Force, though, and today I'm a Major working in Air Force Space Command. Amusingly enough, I could apply for the Astronaut program right now as a mission specialist, but I'm not particularly interested in that option at this point in my career (now...ten years ago...!). One of the strangest lessons I've learned is that you never stop dreaming, you never stop looking to the horizon, no matter how many years you put under your belt. The hardest things to overcome are fear of failure and inertia. Oddly enough, kendo's philisophical underpinnings will prepare you well to do just that, so stick with it. Chase those dreams, my man! Humans are a lot like sharks: the moment we stop moving, we sink and drown. Cheers |
I wanted to be one of those guys who made the VFX for the first Star Wars trilogy.. 20 years later, I ended up doing VFX on Lord of the Rings.
Sometimes dreams does come true, although rarely ever as planned! Jakob |
Wow guys! It's great to know peoples stories... thre are so many amazing things out there and we just dont know the half of them http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/redface.gif . I'm lucky to have realized the importance of study early on in my life so now things come pretty easy to me..... But the future scares me witless http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/nervous.gif . Our lives are riddled with the successes of others, but for how much longer can we keep progressing? Our dreams may eventually become our nigh'mares and lead to our ultimate demise. For now though, until the horizon darkens, I shall dream, and may other dream on winds of summer sighs as ever we wait for the future to become now.
Wow..... philosophical moment.... |
I want to join the army rangers. Thats always what I have dreamed of doing. I'm not of age to do so though.
|
When I was younger (not that I'm old) I never knew what I wanted to do, astronaut, policeman, doctor, jet fighter never appealed to me. It's only been recently that I've began to concern myself with what I will do. I plan to own and run funeral parlours.
Seriously |
I actually told my preschool teacher that I wanted to be a shark, but it never worked out due to my lack of gills and such. Then i said i wanted to be like my brother, and now I look at him, and i definitly dont want to be like him. Then I wanted to be an airplane, yes an airplane, but it turns out i cant fly.
So all of my dreams were shattered when I grew up. Damn old age -tears-. Now i want to teach Kumdo when i become qualified, i think this one might actually come true. |
Started college as an electrical engineer major. Started to hate science and the specifics of it though. Who cares if the required force is 2.345 Newtons instead of 2.346!@#!#@! Still held on to my joy of math and sports though and became a teacher/coach to be able to use both.
Sounds kinda boring when I look at some of the other really cool things you people do, but it keeps me happy. And I've got my summers off, HAHA HA HA HA HAH A HA .... (More evil laughter and pointing) P.S. Although if we didn't have our summers to recharge, I doubt there would be many teachers... teaching is like trying to sell something useful and necessary to a consumer who doesn't want it... |
Always wanted to be an artist when I grew up.
Ended up as an artist. Now looking forward to growing up... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif |
I would have loved to have been an artist, but now i've seen so many more career choices I've decided that I'm still going to take art at GCSE abnd A-level, but i'm just going to do it to earn a little extra cash.
Correct me If i'm wrong but I don't think that an artist can earn that much these days (unless you're Rolf Harris http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink2.gif ). |
Son: Daddy, what should I be when I grow up?
Father: Honest. |

Stick 'technical illustration' into google images and you'll see what I do. |
As a fellow "IwantToBeanArtistWhenIgrowUp" who is now a working artist - I second the notion that artists do just fine. In fact, I think a good measure of "am I an artist?" is to ask yourself, "could I possibly do anything else for a living?" As for me, I'd die if I couldn't make cool stuff, money or no money!

Ever since i was a wee lassie, i always wanted to be a pilot.
I am going away next year (hopefully) to SC to make that dream come true. I am determined to do so. |
I used to dream to become a pilot, martial artist and police woman when I was a kid. None of them come true due to eye sight, and not so good body build. Now, I dream of having my own flower shop or maybe a cafe. I know it sounded like simple life.

Steph, good luck with becoming a Snowdrop.
When I was 19, I took all the tests (written, physical, medical etc) only to wait ages for a training post at Catterick. I gave up waiting in the end. I have a friend who is now in the MOD Police. He loves it. Maybe you should consider that too? |
Before I learnt the harsh reality,I used to dream to be an airplane or a bullet train shinkansen.
|
First I wanted to be an archaeologist. Then I wanted to be an artist. Then a textile/fashion designer. Then an accountant. Then an art teacher...
Well, I'm a Systems Analyst now. And love it. |
I might be getting older, but I refuse to grow up.
