McAfee & Firefox?

OK...with my Trojan Vundo zapped, I find myself with new problems.

Got rid of the Norton Antispyware because it turns your CPU to molasses.

Downloaded Firefox, not more IE.

Then, got McAfee Virusscan from Costco today.

So, of course, the first thing Firefox does is shut down McAfee's auto update.

McAfee detects Firefox as "netscape" (WOW, it's been ages since I heard that name) and wants to install a plug-in to allow McAfee updates...

So, in the end, I switch IE back to the default browser so McAfee can get its updates.

Anyone use both Firefox and McAfee can enlighten me on this one?

Thanks!

I think you wanna try out the new Netscape, it's very stable and you can view webpages as IE or Firefox. The new Fireforx is really buggy, so don't even use it. I don't know much about McAfee thou.

I use Firefox for about 95% of my browsing (the other 5% are those pages that pretty much *require* IE to function properly), so I'll take a minor issue with those who say it's super buggy. Mildly buggy, yes...but not super buggy. But then, you're talking to a guy who likes to tinker with alternate browsers (Opera, et al).

But anyway.

Let Mcafee install it's Netscape integration. The core engine for Firefox is designed to handle those stubs, so it should work fine for you in Firefox. I emphasize *should* here!

Depending on which computer I'm on, I use either Norton or ZoneAlarm's antivirus suite, both of which work fine with Firefox. So there's an option.

Good luck!

no no, I'm talking about the new beta version. It's really bad, it crashed left and right for me. Everything couldn't go wrong, went wrong. It got me so frustrated I had to use IE. Then I switch to netscape I get all the nice FireFox things back.

Can't you use both: Firefox + IE. Firefox for surfing and IE for your updates. I don't trust IE. Scripting, Active X, etc. just makes surfing unsafe. I am very happy with Firefox.

I even donated for a firefox ad in one of Germanys big, conservative newspapers ;-) It simply is a great browser !

OH! Got it! That's why I don't use the betas! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

You certainly can use both browsers. As I said, that's exactly what I do.

Cheers.

Strange... I am using beta 2 right now, and it hasn't crashed even once. The only irritating thing is that when I do searches from the search bar, it opens a new tab, which it didn't before. At least I found out how to focus on the new tab, but I still want an option to make it open the search in the current frame.
Other than that, I really like the new version. Can't wait for 1.5 final version http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Tools/Options/Advanced/tabbed browsing. Maybe you can change it there. I think they have changed the layout a bit but maybe it works.

I have tried the beta Version as well. I really like the >delete all private data< funktion. It is also faster that the current version. Unfortunately I need some extensions and therefore 1.5 beta isn't an option yet.

Cheers,

Hmm...Firefox killed McAfee's integration process...I can't get it to do that again for some reason....

I am still going to use Firefox when the final version comes out, till then, I'm staying with Netscape for now. When I upgraded to the beta, I couldn't post reply here on the forum. And then weird stuff happened when I used the apostrophe when typing. It was really annoying. Besides that, the url bar keeps the url highlited, so when press enter... you guessed it, it reloads the page. Then again, it's just the beta. I'll get the final when it comes out.

David maybe you should try the program I advised you in my message in PM and don't use McAffee.

Hmm...the final is out, as far as I'm concerned. I'm using version 1.07 right now - it's not beta. They still have test version available, but they provide a final product as well. Check them out.

Hank.

edit: funny thing - right after I posted this I went back two pages and firefox crashed on me. Hardly happens, though.

Yeah, I tried out the v.1.5 beta since I was hoping maybe try out some new functions. Now I have to do a clean install to make the 1.07 works again. I'm actually waiting for v1.5 final, I've been using 1.07.
