By horizontal i meant, like hes standing up and hes not lying down, therefore you have to swipe across instead of down.

I don't want to cut anyone i just was wondering. Let's say a guy who has calves the size of a small lamppost. Would it be possible to cut through his lower leg?

gettoblaster 10-31-2005 07:00 AM

that depends, who do you wanna cut?

Some of the things we would do to get better at cutting legs was to help some tribes which live in tropical regions clear trees, the thing is we were using wooden swords so you can imagine how tough it was, now with one swing i've gotten to a level where i can even cut an elephant's leg with ease, don't be mistaken i'm doing that for a good cause, veterinarians cost a lot in India. My goal now is to cut facial hair, i'm planing to live by the sword and compete with Gilette and the likes.
Hope this helps, BTW what legs are you talking about? it it's human legs then those are rare, not that many people get there legs cut nowadays.

horizontal strike with the sword?

It depends on the practitioner. Right now, I'm not too good with my aim. But there is another factor into this.

In Kendo, we generally don't use real swords unless you are doing kata at a really high rank. Other than that, we just use shinai and bokken which supposedly feels different from a shinai.

There is, however, two arts that use real swords: Kenjutsu and Iaido. Those arts might let you be able to cut a leg with one horizontal strike.

Hell, of course we can do that, we do it every pracitce in the end to get rid of the dead wood in the dojo so to speak. But not everyone can do this though this is not for the wimps who can't handle a shinken, bokken and a rowing oar.
Only experienced Kendoka.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/rolleyes.gif

i think i'd be able to... gta try this on sunday lesson...

What exactly is the point of asking such a question? What's your motive?

Not a chance, because kendoka can't handle a real sword anyways.

As of now, I know of only 2 arts that will make you capable enough to cut somones leg with one strike. First is Iaido, the whole sword samurai stuff incorperated in there. 2nd is HaeDongKumdo, its like a Korean Iaido but you do more than just swing around a sword. You can get an Iaido clip off of Yahoo! Video search, but heres a really good HaeDongKumdo clip,

LOL good one...

I was enrolled in gross anatomy last year (med school)... so if someone provides a really sharp hand forged and expensive katana...

j/k U go alittle nuts when u spend half a day in freezing room with formaldehyde and corpses. Mind plays weird ideas...

We dont practice hitting people in the leg, because first they can trip, or we can miss and aim for their no-no.
