How to scratch the kendo "itch"

Does anyone else find themselves.. well wanting to hit something with a stick at all times? i'll be at work and want to do kendo.... middle of class, kendo, working on a lab report (like right now) and kendo, anyone else always have that urge on their mind, or am i just a mutant? i get yelled at by friends and relatives for doing okuri-ashi while standing in lines and while waiting at resteraunts, or anytime i cross a floor tennis shoes will slide decently on.... *sigh* oh well.

Oh, trust me, friend. You are most defintely not alone in this aspect, I find myself wanting to Kendo a lot as well. And doing it's techinques in the most... odd places. Although, I don't want to whack things with a stick... anyways: 'Once a Kichigai, always a Kichigai.' 8D

With that being said, don't feel odd about it... just quench the urge when you get home with continous pratice.

Hah, you should see me at the billiards.

I can sympathise. Sometimes when I'm really bored in the office I have to fight down the urge to start counting really loudly in Japanese.

Now you all know my deep, dark secret.

Damn I can't wait to get back in the dojo. Four months out and I'm starting to go peculiar.

Anyone tried to board a train in Shinjuku at rush hour? I really wish I had a shinai at those times and just started tsuki ing and men striking people left and right... I'd never have a difficult time getting on or off a train again... either that or be deported...

StitsVobsaith 02-11-2006 01:37 AM

I got a Shinai at work ..always scare the shit out of my co workers...MEEEEENNNnnnn... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif)

I am like that but with Iaido instead... Like at work...
I find that I have started to bow to customers at times http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../confused2.gif I do wonder if people notice

Hmm...last week I had an exam...in the middle of it I tried to consult with my friend about one of the questions and it was noticed by the proffesor...
When he told me to stop I lowered my head and said "HAI" without thinkinghttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif
not sure if he noticedhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

I instinctively hit my uncle's kote when I went to shake his hand once... I didn't even bother to explain, it wouldn't have made me look less crazy.

objennasweene 02-11-2006 12:26 PM

Well, I sometimes go over the kata in my head. It helps when I have to actually do them.

I'm really bad with that... we once were having a lecture on DTE cables in school and the teacher asked "...does everyone understand?" and without thinking I shouted "Hai!" Everyone whipped around and gave me some wierd looks ^^;. Every time someone does that, I have to stop myself and swap back into American mode.

I do suburi with my umbrella

its frightening quite frankly

I am in the process of a 2 week break from kendo. There were some kids in my gym class pretending to be Jedi with lacross sticks.... I couldn't resist. I scored 2 kote and one do, people were staring.

we0MA4MI 02-12-2006 09:02 AM

yeah, for the immidate hours following a practice i'm bowing and respoding with "HAI!" alot, untill i slowly slip back into american mode..

I've been so tempted to break into the dance classroom between classes and just start trying fumikomi all over the brand new wooden floor.

I've also been saying Hai instead of Si during spanish class. It's just the little things.

Other than rich-boy show-offs? No.

Zjohkrbi 02-14-2006 08:58 AM

Ouch, very ouch baby.

tsaaapla 02-14-2006 01:13 PM

I find myself picking stuff up from the floor in sonkyo, shuffling around during smokingbreaks at work (yeah I know, bad habit-smoking that is) and this morning I stood at a red light standing in kamae waiting for the trafficlight to show me an opening; turn green so I could fumikomi and shuffle along...... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../confused2.gif

Feloascarlelt 02-17-2006 09:34 PM

I have a really bad-habit of extending my right hand and doing a slight bow when I cross in front of people outside of the dojo.
