what would you call yourself?

relating to a discussion I had at school today, i thought It would be interesting to find out what people refer to themselves as. I mean, if you were really pressed, what would you call yourslef?
Whast do you guys think of these sub-cultures? Wierd or just another part of society?
As ever, just out of interest. Any replys will be interesting! In advance, thank you all.

propolo 01-20-2006 10:22 AM

None of the above.

chootsonege 01-20-2006 10:23 AM

a good speller?

TouccuraLar 01-20-2006 10:27 AM

I think most people are too complex to explain with a single word.

but if I were to choose only one characteristic, it would be weird.

Flankrene 01-20-2006 10:40 AM

bored of what appears to be people's constant need to classify themsevles into the groups just listed and then most likely follow up by saying how individual they are

otherwise known as who gives a damn. Does a chav get a +2 attack modifier against a goth or something? Can emo not cross over water?

Am i missing something here?

swoluelvede 01-20-2006 11:10 AM

Maybe it's just a youth thing. I just find it interesting that there are so many groups knocking about and wondered what peoples views were on this sort of thing.

AmfitNom 01-20-2006 12:05 PM

Sorry, I don't really fit into just one or even just two or three categories so I couldn't really pick.

orison 01-20-2006 12:19 PM

What I always preached to my kids was to not be part of a group. Instead, be yourself and others will group around you. It was sort of funny to watch too. Individualism seems to be pretty scary to young people today. When my eldest refused to fit into other groups, he was shunned for a while. Later, he became something of a hero and ended up with people making a group around him. Six years later, my youngest son is in the middle of doing the same thing.

Come on!! You missed geek (or is that a given since we are posting on an internet forum?).

Anyway, i don't believe in such labels. The only ones I'm able to understand are the musical subcultures, I'm a mix of Pop Nerd and the Indie fan.

As for those other subcultures I'd say that thay are all alright in their own way, except emo and chavs but especially emo and despite not appearing Ska kids also suck.

zlopikanikanzax 01-20-2006 02:25 PM

You are missing sporty and geeky and loner or social outcast... Can't have a true list of odd little high school sub cultures without those catagories...

PyncGyncliacy 01-20-2006 03:28 PM

sub cultures is a very weird thing. when i was in secondary school it seemed to be very important to everyone to belong in one of those groups and people calling other people from the same group fakes and having huge arguments about it.
Then when you're done with school you notice that it all really didnt matter and that no-one cares about it except teenagers.
I suppose i was a bit of a hippie / indie kid (maybe a bit of a geek too) but I've kind of lost interest in that kind of music so now im just boring http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

Human fart machine wasn't listed.

So you were THAT kid! Always hated THAT kid! Especially when they'd intentionally block the door just prior to an episode... thus trapping poor unsuspecting souls in the room... to be in high school again...

alenbarbaf 01-20-2006 07:02 PM

You forgot the 'teens-who-think-they-can't-be-labeled' demographic.

Twelearly 01-20-2006 08:35 PM

I'm with Hai_hai on the human fart machine being much more apropriate!

Not you in particular.

I'm talking about the type of young people who think that because they don't fall into any one 'stereotype,' that means they "can't be labeled." And they are (annoyingly) proud of it. As if they are trying too hard to be "unique."

teewHettive 01-21-2006 02:42 AM

I think my newest nickname is sukebe mcgee.

Sanremogirl 01-21-2006 03:19 AM

I've got no idea what I would call my self, but it isn't be one of the above. Hmmm... Maybe broke, like most college students.

CymnMaync 01-21-2006 03:40 AM
