Why pay 1000+ just to be the first kid on the block to own one? Just wait and be normal like everyone else and buy them from the store for the normal 300 or whatever it might be. When they sell out, put your name on a waiting list, and get it like everybody else. Doesn't it seem like these people are a little crazy? Besides... I am waiting for PS3...

Damn. I just got the ps2 a couple of years ago. What happened to system longevity? The SNES lasted almost 10 years.

Video games have hit critical mass now. I think the instant a system is out, they are already working on the next so the various companies can try to one up their competition. The only thing that seems to have happened is a quiet truce. Playstation has really good RPGs. Nintendo goes for the multiplayer games. Etc... But this still doesn't make the companies happy. They always have to one up each other. SNES era was a special time when the video game following was not as crazy popular as it is now. It had a solid following at the time of the SNES, but I think the general public is getting more into video games nowadays. At least as I see it...

It isn't the graphics so much as the games that come out for the system. If you have no games, you have 400$ worth (in the case of the better XBOX 360 package) of wires, chips, silicon and plastic.

Its funny because chips also means potato chips. haha. 400 dollars worth of potato chips. Thats a lot, unless they are 400 dollars a pound because they are fancy. Then you are stupid. But if they were chips made of GOLD and you bought it 400 a pound you arent stupid, you are smart (gold is expensive)

I have an Xbox at the minute, the graphics I have to say are a lot better than the PS2 but I think that the games for an xbox are more marketed towards males (All first person shooters >< ack...) So I'm asking my parents for a PS2 slim for christmas, let's just see what santa brings . Xbox 360's arent going for that much where I am! i don't know whether that's american currency and that's why it's so steep but the last I saw one it was selling for about £400! I wouldn't pay 1000+ for a games system, no matter what the hype!

the 360 may be pritty cool but i think it's just the same as the reg. x-box and the ps3 is going to have cordless controlers and the graphics are suposed to be like play able movies (CGC)

Remember the origional x-box? It demonstrated that graphics mean nothing if there are no good games for the system. My favorite games had terrible graphics like "red faction", "half-life", "silent hill" and "dig-dug". Graphics have never made a classic game...ever.

I still have an old dream cast in the corner...

Planned obsolescence. I like the old systems. Goldeneye still rules.

The Xbox 360 is a power house but like others said it'll depend on the titles that'll be released on it, if they just adapt pc games like before or wait for the one game(halo, kotor)that'll make them survive then it means that Sony will again win the console war, in any case, better not buy a console at its launch, give it like six month or so and see what happens.
Microsoft has much more convincing to do compared to Sony IMO.
