two Sword style Kendo

Well i have fare and few pictures of this style of kendo.
Has any 1 Experienced it. I mean it looks scarey Parrying with little 1 while u hold the Large 1 high up its like cuts the time it takes to score men in half.
And for 1 sword style to attack it it must be very difficult to Judge the Ma-ai.
So what do you all know about this style? is it allowed in tournaments and does any westerner practace this style. Is there even certain Kata to parry and attack with this style?

Erawise 04-11-2006 03:02 AM

Yep, it's allowed in shiai.

There's quite a few UK kenshi who do nito kendo (not to be confused with niten ichi ryu kenjutsu). Ask your sensei - he may know some of the BKA who practice this.

There isn't any kata for nito kendo, just itto kendo.

before the barrage of arguments (that usually follow a query about two sword fencing) start, I would suggest you use the search facility vaialiable here and lookup "nito", "niten" and "two sword"

Enjoy

Paul, the search engine limits us to words of 5 letters or more, so 'nito' and 'two sword' are a bugger to find...!

Wheegiabe 04-11-2006 03:17 AM

Paul is right, though - there are heated debates about nito kendo and niten ichi ryu kenjutsu. Avoid discussing the two at once as they are very different animals...

Try these...

try checking out e-bogu.com they sell all sorts of Nito related stuff - DVD's and books. I got this one

It's in Japanese , which if you don't read japanese could be tricky but it is very informative.
There some of the Kata in it too. I've seen the kata demonstrated and its quite unusual.

There's a popular saying on this forum. Nito is neato.

Okay. It's not popular but it should be popular.

I like it. Props to Hai Hai!

Anavaralo 04-18-2006 06:01 PM

It is done with a normal and a kodachi-size shinai right?

anxpuna 04-19-2006 11:12 PM

One of the shinai is a short sword and the longer one is three-quarters of a standard shinai.

Kendo: Elements, Rules, and Philosophy by: Jinichi Tokeshi touches on the basic kamae and waza of nito, though not terribly in depth. My sensei knows some of it, but says its pretty rarely practiced outside of Japan, and frowned upon in shiai below a certain rank.

I've seen some film of it being used in a match during hachidan testing somewhere, but I can't remember where it was. I'm sure somebody on here can point you to it.
