Just outa interest, i was wondering what martial arts are centered around the use of a staff? If you mean the quarterstaff (rokushakubo) then there is bojutsu (don't know which koryu's, check www.koryu.com). Look into jodo too. |

There's Shindo Muso-ryu, which has jodo as its main curriculum. The kata instruct the use of a staff to defeat a swordsman. It has the problem of most koryu - finding an instructor - but you can do some research. The Skoss' site at has some details, and I think also mentions some other koryu that train with jo. ZNKR contains a set of twelve jo kihon and twelve jo kata that were extracted from the SMR curriculum to complement kendoka training.
You can read archived threads regarding jodo in this forum or over at e-Budo . Aiki-jo is largely intended to instruct aiki principles, and isn't necessarily instruction on the staff, per se. Regards, John |
