Think you could survive?

Lighting fast, brutal and deadly.
A knife attack.
Think you'd be fast enough to really escape unharmed?

Warning...bad language and Aussie accents ahead.

These sorts of videos can be quite sobering, because most of the time in a typical martial arts settings, training for these sort of quick, unexpected and brutal attacks is almost nil.
Note that technique pretty much goes out the window.

Here is another clip of this group:

Most of the 'defense' that was in that video is completely unrealistic.. hardly any of the 'victims' keys on the knife hand they seem to be intent on wrestling the attacker to the ground which is dumb.

Lotyqnag 08-11-2006 01:19 PM

Why do you think taking the attacker to the ground is dumb?

Shemker394 08-11-2006 01:28 PM

Mad Max could take em.

To which he will then accuse the Jewish of organizing said attack.

In accordance with Neil, taking the attacker down to the ground may not be dumb. Look at Gracie's style in the UFC.

Why do you think taking the attacker to the ground is dumb? Because I've never seen a real street fight where the person pushing the fight did not have several buddies behind him. People very rarely get that belligerent on their own. If you hit the ground in that situation, you will never get back up. Seen it happen a number of times, had it happen a couple.

In Holland if someone tries to steal a bicycle from you the only defence you have is pick your bicycle up and trow it at the thief.

Yes, I have done this and it works very well. The guy was so suprised that I trew the bicycle at him he ran off and I could go on. Only had some paint damage. I might have to add this wasn't my mountain bike and I was just to naive to stop, asking for directions trick, http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/confused.gif

I agree with Mike and Paul here. Knife defense has to focus #1 on the knife. You also have to understand that you will get cut but that is better than getting stabbed multiple times while you are rolling around on the ground.
Unless you plan on taking the guy to the ground and making him a quad or dead real quick and getting back up you best stay on your feet.

I watched their gun defenses too and I have the same observation. The "victim" properly rolls off the gun, (I would go the other way, i.e. to the outside) but goes after the attacker rather than the gun leaving themselves open to get shot while they are going to the ground.

Effective gun and knife techniques are mostly wrist locks.

Innockcroff 08-11-2006 02:58 PM

In a fight against an armed attacker the first thing to worry about is the weapon.. even if you take an opponent to the ground if you don't isolate the knife hand you will still end up with a knife in you.

HartOvara 08-11-2006 02:58 PM

i agree, i have a friend who goes looking for fights at the bar, when a piercing weapon such as a knife or broken bottle are involved, ladning on the ground is what gets you stabbed, in my friends case, a broken bottle thru the throat, or the guy he was scrapping with impailed him the the groin with a chair leg once when he was on the ground.

Hehehe...that's almost as good as the time here in KL when this robber tried to carjack this bloke's car at the traffic lights. He ran up with a knife and tried to open the door, finding it was locked, he started waving the knife at the guy and screaming for him to open the door. The guy looks at him. calmly reaches into his glove box, pulls out his service revolver and shoots the robber dead.

Moral: Try not to carjack an off-duty cop at the lights.

Knife fighting? I remember sitting in a lesson given by an unarmed combat instructor for the Australian Armed Forces.

He basically said, "if you find yourself in a fight with a guy with a knife, run. If you can't run, throw everything you can at him and then run. Don't try and fight, or grab the knife, because in all honesty...he'll end up stabbing or wounding you."

I only know one effective technique against a gun or knife, RUN!!!

Ofcourse if possible you could put your foot on the inside of your opponents knee while going for the weapon and then make a run for it as the attacker lays on the ground in pain.

I was taught some techniques to disarm from knive attacks when i did jiu jiutsu but i can't say I feel secure enough about being able to do them that I would try it instead of running.

Now if I would have my bicycle with me that I would be able to trow or have a bicycle which wasn't mine that i could trow that would change the situationhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

Here in the Ohio suburbs, we don't have to really worry about getting assaulted by a guy with a knife...

But those of you who live in places which you may have to worry about something like that...how do you go about preparing yourself when you walk out the door? Do you carry mace or some sort of collapsable club or just good running shoes?

Don't you have those sticks that flip out which you can really hit hard with?

I know they are illegal here in holland, they surely would be something nice to have on me cause it would mean I wouldn't have to keep trowing bicycles. Just kote men do with proper zanshin would do the trick.

Speaking about suburbs and robbery...

This Burgler goes off to this posh neighbourhood and breaks into a home. Its dark and no one is in. As he makes his way into the living room he hears a voice say, "Jesus is watching you."

He freezes...peering into the gloom he see's nothing. But then he hears the voice again.

"Jesus is watching you."

He then calls out, "Who's there?"

"Moses. I'm Moses."

Flicking on the light switch, he see's a Parrot in front of him.

"Haha...so you must be Moses."

"Yes." Says the Parrot.

"Hahaha...What kind of person call's a Parrot Moses?" asks the relieved Burgler.

"Oh, the same kinda person who calls their Rottweiler Jesus." replies the Parrot.

I suppose if you really really train hard you could do the kote men do with the bicycle...

But yes I believe I know what you're talking about. They're metal and extend like (for lack of a better example) those toy plastic lightsabers that are about?

and KhawMengLee...great story..I was kind of hoping the burglar would see his wrongdoing and beg for Jesus's forgiveness, but getting his face bitten by a rottweiler should have the same effect.

I think the official term is "extendable baton."

Xtatotvk 08-11-2006 06:13 PM

Another random tangent but here's a funny story...

A story was in the news a few months ago in Tokyo. A theif broke into a building one night not knowing it was a sumo stable. He wasn't going anywhere after one of the sumo guys who couldn't sleep pinned him and basically sat on him until the police came to take him in... That was a great story...

Note to theives: know where you are breaking into before doing so...
