Would you do if you could not afford to go to kendo. So you stop practicing for a while . Few months later you run into one of your friends from kendo. You get talking about kendo. Your friends basic message is that everyone wants to come back. So later your friend sends you a email that tells you that you to get your ass back. I personally find that kind of email very infuriating. Then after that he sends you another. Telling that everyone at the dojo said "screw your dignity". I can't stand that kind of thing. Sorry to vent here but your the only kendokas I can talk to.

I would do what ever it takes to get back in the dojo.

Personally, I'd find it very flattering that everyone wants me to come back. Then find a way to get back into the dojo, and for everyone who did indeed say "Screw your dignity" Whallop'em good in Shiai ^___^

Would not happen. But if it did, well, I just wouldn't go to kendo for a while I guess. But first I'd try to free money for kendo by cutting down on other stuff.

Money and time are both issues for a lot of us. If you truly cannot afford it in your list of spending priorities, then don't go. If your friends keep sending you emails then tell them you'd be glad to come back if they A) won't charge you or B) if they will pay your fees. Make it clear that your reason for not coming isn't because you gave up on doing kendo but rather that you aren't able to come due to finances. If they continue to send you emails and you don't wish to read them , delete them w/o reading them or mark them as spam so they end up in your spam filter.

Some clubs usually have a work-around for those who cannot pay (immediately). I hope yours is one of them. If it is, swallow your pride and go for it.

It has been my experience that if someone wants something bad enough, they will find a way to overcome whatever obstacles are in the way and achieve their desires. From what you said in your posts, I am under the impression that kendo is just not that important to you at the moment. There's nothing at all wrong with that. However, if you use the excuse of money to avoid the dojo, you are going to have to put up with the well meaning people that are going to try and get you back to the dojo. If you tell them that other things are more important at the moment and that you may return at a later date, they will accept that and back off.

Just my thoughts on it.

if they are proper mates they should be more understanding about your difficulties.
have you explained it and how you feel to them?
and have you explained it to your teacher? if hes decent he might let you have lessons at a reduced rate or something.

well, me and my big brother are really good at karate. (if i tested right now i could probly get a purple belt.) my karate sensei will allow us to just step in for a weak or two, provided we (mainly my brother) help out with the younger (or older) white-belts.

so, maybe if you help out some of the "new people" in kendo, he will let you practice for free.

Ask sensei if you can sweep the floor or do something to offset the dues for a time. A good student and a good sensei should be able to find a way to work it out.

Yep. The wax-on/wax-off concept isn't just for the movies. Tell your sensei you are willing to contribute your time, and ways can be found to make that work.

I am wondering how much is your dojo charging for fee?
I have heard in most case, it is very small.
In my case, our fee is just for maintain of cultural center.
It is paid in 3 months advance and is 15 dollars.
I am thinking, even poor person can afford this?
I don't think anyone is getting rich from teaching Kendo.
As another person said, is it really money problem?
If it's me, I sell all my stuff on ebay to make money.
Or I offer to work for dojo, or ask for odd job from members to earn the fee.
or find a way somehow.

because thats all the fees should pay for, hall hire, insurance and maybe extra for club bogu and shinais etc.

That's tough for a 15-year old. Still a bit high from my experience though, but maybe I'm just lucky.

More than three times what we charge for a junior. Seems very high indeed.
