Didn't know where to post this, but Ithought I'd share.

I got my first shinai yesterday, took it home and it was out in the living room area.
My mother picks it up and starts swinging with it going " so this is what you've been dissapearing for." *continues to wave it around in a fencing position*
..so I say to her...
"Mother-dearest, to swing/cut with a shinai/sword is a very serious/sacred endevour, please don't be so reckless with it, its not just a toy."
she then turns to me and says..
"well, diciplining you is also a very serious/sacred endeavour."
*proceeds to poke me with shinai*
"now go take the trash out"
(conversation was in Chinese)

Hahaha. I've already had my mom smack me with the shinai a few times when I have trouble waking up for school on time. I need a lockbox or something.

hahaha!!! Congrats on getting your first shinai! Have fun figuring out how to take it apart and put it back together again http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/evil.gif

i have to take it apart?!?!
...booo...

well kinda knew i had to up keep it, but knowing me i'd probably damage it beyond repair somehow..

right now all i'm doing is holding it while doing footwork, but personally i don't know if i'm even ready for the shinai since i'm moving at a snail's pace with the feet thing.

You should sand and oil it before you use it. Not essential, but a good idea. Good practise too. Thats what everyone badgered me to do!

I live in my own apartment with no mothers in sight! When I get a new weapon I wave it around like I just dont care..and I dont! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cool.gif

*waits for applauds*

The last time I let my parents hold one of my weapons was the LAST time either of them will be holding one of my weapons after I turned around and saw my dad with the iaito (that is a loaner, mind you - not even mine) slung over his back, holding it by the sageo.

I dont live on my own but i no longer live with the parents, this was during one of mother's visits, thoguh i must say i was diliberatly being sassy with her.
its wierd after a certain age i'd start lecturing my mom just to sass her, usually this results in some of her great "dicipline". >.
