Default Pet Peeves in movies
What annoys you about Movies?
For me, it's lack of details and inaccuracies.

For example:

1. As far as I have ever seen, Katanas do NOT sing when unsheathed.
Yet in just about every American movie about Samurai, this always seems to be the case.

2. There are NO sounds in space. yet we always hear explosions, lasers, and whoosing sounds. (For that matter, it is debatable whether or not there would even be explosions in space or the ability to see lasers.)

3.How is that the good guys can take massive amounts of physical hits, kicks, flips, and abuse that would normally be reserved for people with metal skeletons? I mean, three or four full powered shots to face or body, and the average guy would probably be down for the count. I know I would.
But the bad guys seem to have a more realistic stint. They usually flip over in droves with one punch from the hero.

4. Martial Arts masters who live deep in the mountains, and are secluded from all society, *probably* won't speak any other language other than their own.

5. In all likelihood, when a Foreigner is encountered by a tribe of wild natives, they would not "Take him back and make him live with the tribe and teach him their ancient ways." But rather they’d simply scalp/disembowel/eat him on the spot.

6.Cowboys, when shot off a cliff, go "Aaaaaaaaaaa"...Indians and all others go "Aiieeeeeee!"

Those are just a few.
What are some of yours?

Flowers that give the good guys cover (see any Arnold S/Sly Stallone action movie).

Also, Bad guys screaming as they fall large distances AFTER being shot. Strange heebie-jeebies.

At a glance: All the supermodels slash actresses slash singers slash playboy-veterans in tight outfits with the opinion that they are a pillar of the "girl-power"-community...well yeah they are nice to look/drool at and I do on occassion, (I'm male..so sue me), but I'd like to see some normal women in movies too.

*edit*

Hell! The same can be said for the women portrayed in computer games. I doubt any of the game-makers have ever seen a real woman :P (there are exceptions of course)

People that are thrown due to the shockwave from an explosion, to stand up even without their hair messed up.

The good guy ALWAYS wins (makes movies way too boring)

Tom Cruise. He is always "the best", the best pilot, pool player, bartender, Nascar driver, lawyer.....barf.

Wire Stunts.

SAPPY love stories thrown in for no plot purpose.

Unlimited ammo in weapons.

Same old plots, no new characters--

Everyone can speak english. E.g. WW2 german officers always speak english, but is deemed to be acceptable as it is done with a german accent

Meryl Streep did a fantastic job as Lindy Chamberlain.
Also, that lady who played the receptionist in the series GP that was on the ABC years ago was actually British (only one 't') and had to learn to speak with an Australian accent so she could get acting jobs in Australia.

hehe, yeah there's a couple that arent too bad. Most actors end up sounding like a dundee/south african/kiwi/american mutant that says "mate" a lot.

I saw this movie a while ago and it had a koala that spoke with a scottish accent. Man that was annoying.

I hate it when people are doing a period film and they mess up how traditional clothes are supposed to be worn.

I only generally have 2, and I'm going to use example from The Last Samurai coz it was on telly at the weekend and I watched it with the missus:

1) When the actor adds "little touches" that might have been a good idea at the time, but just look balls when you watch it, like when Algren and Ujio draw in their last bokuto fight before Algren goes back, Cruise obviously decided that a quick bokuto-twirl would look cool.....

2) Shit that you just KNOW shouldn't quite happen. Like when Taka is strapping the armour onto Algren, and they kiss. WHY DID THEY KISS!?! They didn't need it, the plot didn't need it, but I'll bet Tommy boy popped a kodachi when he saw it in the script.

I second that.
What's worse is when they use a British accent for a German character. As if that is supposed to make him more foreign or something.

Different pet peeve; Dances with Wolves, the white woman raised plains Indian is trying to remember her native tongue. She can recall difficult words but has trouble remembering simple state-of-being verbs and other English basics.

I was quite happy with Maximilian Schell accent in the 1977 "Cross of Iron" movie. Of course that could have something to do with the fact that Schell is born and raised in Austria .

Another trivia on Cross of Iron. James Mason, excellent british actor, does his own version of a german accent...and David Warner, another british actor does his in perfect english accent. And of course James Coburn who does his role of a German Sergeant with an american accent.

Meh!

Mac's in movies. Specially ones that can do the impossible, like link to an alien spacecraft and release a virus. What did they use in Independence day? Appletalk or MacTCPIP?

I know you're using a specific to represent a generality, but - what is it about the bokuto-twirl (in general) that makes me seethe with so much rage?

And, on the topic of accents by non-natives - I've never seen a non-native do a passable Boston accent on the screen. It seems to be impossible. But it's probably just because non-natives don't pick up on the subtleties that natives catch.

Hank.

Computers in programmes like CSI and all, which do everything on strange coloured screens and make lots of beeping noises, and where everything is done by a few keystrokes......

Off subject but it reminded me of the time I was taking a taxi from Logan airport to my sister's place in Mission Hill (back in '97 or '98) and the cabbie was busy telling me all about the Big Dig. The whole time I was cracking up (not knowing at the time what the Big Dig was) because with his thick Boston accent I thought he was saying the big dick. It wasn't until the end of the ride I heard a 'g' sound in the somewhere and I realized he was talking about the massive construction effort. It was weird how one word could change that entire story into one strange sexual innuendo.

It kinda gets to me when the "hero" of a fillum takes a few rounds, hits the deck, does a little self-administered first aid and gets up again with barely a limp or a wince to show for it.

Film-makers take note:

If you get shot in the thigh, you don't limp. You scream as your bone snaps and you fall over.

If you take one in the gut, you don't grunt, wince and carry on fighting. You go down and stay there.

When some fool casts the wrong actor/actress to play an 'ethnic' role aka Chinese girl playing a Geisha just because she looks asian....the accent is horrible.
