Not just for Cinder but for any future enquiry into:

Wedding photos
Wedding dress/materials
Wedding venue
Wedding photographers
Wedding upcountry
Wedding recommendations
etc.....

Most Thais just hire their wedding dress etc.....

The biggest Thai lanaguage site on all the above is:

http://www.weddingsquare.com

If anyone can't read Thai then have a Thai friend sit down with and help with what you are after.

correct Steve, a friend had a Thai ceremony and everything right down to the end was supplied, cloths and everything else,,so why not just contract for it to be done as most Thai do.

Maybe they want a christian wedding tho????

Hello there,

I will be marrying in Chiang Mai but have a dilemma regarding wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses.
Because I will not be visiting Chiang Mai until right before wedding, I do not have the option to choose textiles myself. I would like to have tradtional Thai dresses made. Can anyone offer advise as to how I can go about having these made without seeing the material first? Is it customary to have samples mailed? I don't want to be difficult, but at the same time, I don't think that I'd be comfortable buying things that I cannot see myself.
Also, does Chiang Mai have a variety of imported goods (ie. wedding dresses from Laos, Cambodia) that can be purchased?
Also, what style of dress is the trend these days in Thailand? Any wedding photos anyone? A lot of questions, I know, but I'd appreciate any commentary that anyone would have.

Unfotunately not going to Bangkok. =(. But thanks for the advice.
From what I can see, it looks like Western style dresses are quite popular. I can see why it's more cost-effective to rent. Western-style dresses are sooo expensive. We're following more of a traditional route. Vietnamese Tea ceremony/reception in Laos ...Thai-Buddhist ceremony in Chiang Mai....Post-wedding Canadian brunch upon return from honeymoon.
I would love to rent dresses, but because I have 3 receptions to plan:
it would be nice to wear these dresses more than once...at least I get the most for my buck.=).

Not solely traditional you're right..But bear in mind, but these events are over the course of 3 weeks =).
We also come from different cultural backgrounds, and it is important for both of us (as well as our parents and family=) to retain our cultural ties, especially during time of a wedding. My fiance and I are Canadian, but our backgrounds are Vietnamese/Laotian, and French-Canadian. Before our wedding, we first travel to Laos to visit my fiance's family. For his family, it is customary to have a tea ceremony (morning) and dinner reception. Then we travel to Chiang Mai to have our wedding ceremony. (As this was our honeymoon location, we opted to have the ceremony there are well). Once we return from Thailand, we thought that it would be nice for everyone who was not able to attend, to hold a small gathering (brunch) so they could celebrate with us as well. It does take planning, but it possible to 'marry' different traditions and make your wedding event unique =).

If you have time in Bangkok, here is a wedding studio that you can rent or buy wedding dress. Banjomjinda Weddingstudio is opposite The Avenue and BigC on ChaengWattana road, not far from the airport.

Some photos of wedding dresses in this website but there are many of them at the store.
