I'm BORED!!! There's fluid under my cappella from where sempai's four year old hit me in the knee with a kodachi whilst we were doing kendo no kata (ippon mae, so I was in jodan) and I can't train! Bad enough it's a week before iaido/jodo nats but damn, usually my routine is thusly: get up early, have a piece of fruit & glass of water, do chi kung (or qigong, whichever spelling takes your fancy) for twenty minutes, tai chi for ten minutes, maybe some back stretches, catch the train to town then a thirty/forty minute walk to work with maybe a coffee at the markets half way there if I'm feeling decadent, then training three or four times a week.
You know what my routine now is? Get up three quarters of an hour later. Catch train to town, five minute walk to bus stop, go to work. Come home, ice knee in front of TV. Gah! Insomnia from not training and getting that physical work out usually takes me like a week. This time it took two freaking days. And my knee hurts. And I can't prepare for gradings and damn, I have so much work to do. And I'm listless. And it HURTS! Physio (which I can't afford on Monday after work). And anti-inflammatories (which I can't afford) tomorrow. Bored, bored, bored. Tired. Not tired. Had it not been for the week of seminars, the course of action would have been rest it for two/three (or more) weeks. I'm not even meant to be walking on it much! In the last twelve months I've had asthma which put a stop to kendo for months (blessing in disguise cos it's how I started jodo), then pulled my traps which put me out of everything for months. Now the cappella. *begins to smack head against desk*. I think it's kendo. I really think some higher power doesn't want me to do kendo especially. I know, I know, keep positive, utilise visualisation of kata whilst unable to train, etc. Thanks for letting me rant ![]() I'm gonna go blow more raspberries on the cat's belly. That'll make me feel better. He pretends he doesn't like it by doing things like growling or attempting to eat my head but I know he does, really ![]() |

I havn't been able to make it to practice more then once a week for the past month because my back keeps acting up. My back gets pretty bad every few months so I end up missing a lot of practice, but thats life, and I feel your pain, man. Lets hope none of your injuries become cronic, because thats a bitch. Good luck with the knee.
A few good things come out of my injuries though, I think I fixed my kamae over the break, but I have to wait till next week to try it out. Peace. |

Urgh! Backs. I've suffered chronic lower backpain for years. Only missed a couple kendo trainings because of it, luckily. Sempai reckons it's my best art cos it's so linear but I dunno.
Update on the knee - it's a medial collateral ligament strain (at least I haven't ruptured it). Physio's given me a couple exercises and I have to go back Wednesday and I'm wearing a compression bandage. Seven straight days of seminars 8-5 next week will be interesting.... dammit. Should have been training solidly in the two weeks leading up, not sitting on my fat butt watching tv ![]() |

A friend of my sister has roped us both in to go to a demo and class of wing tsung (is that how you spell it?) youve dont that before havent you? Is it worth doing? Am I just going to see a bunch of puffed-up roosters strutting around breaking laminated pine with their elbows?? I feel my plate is full enough with kendo right now, but Ill go once to see what the fuss is about. Wadda ya reckon? |

Alison - it's Wing Chung and nope, not me. My brother does it though. I just do tai chi/qigong. From what I hear it's a very worthy art.
I always find it hard when I'm at training to.. not train. I know it's stupid but I feel really awkward saying "sorry, had enough", especially when I'm training with people I don't know. And Sats, I told you it was porn ![]() And I don't know about the baby oil but if you wanna come massage my knee to break up the scar tissue using ice gel, all good by me. Expect you here, what? Friday give you enough time? See you then (now let's see if the Pom's are good to their word...) |
