The Big 3 0.

Guys,

I have just turned thirty. As such, my life has become a meaningless, soul-crushing void. I have made the realisation that my life is mapped out for me thus: Next stop is the pram shop, after which it's all downhill to the crematorium (via the garden centre).

I would like to ask the older members of the forum how they got over being 30.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!"
The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked." Holding the bucket up he said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

Moral of the story: Old men can still think fast.

Happy Birthday!

Well, your acne has probably cleared up and hopefully you've gotten over that pesky premature ejaculation thing, so now you have about six good weeks ahead of you before you start having system failures and parts start falling off. Your knees and hips will go first. You probably still have your first divorce to look forward to and your kids are entering puberty which is always a treat. Next your wife will start menopause which I personally found to be more exciting than the rollercoaster at Coney Island.
Luckily your memory will start to fail and with any luck you will get an early onset of senility.

30 wasn't so bad, since I realized that it was actually going downhill since 25 give or take 1.
30 is not the big milestone .. it's just a little pebble on the way downhill.

p.s. if that doesn't happen naturally (yet), now is a good time to start feigning it.
Makes the transition easier.

You can still remember names, faces and dates? Start randomly forgetting half of them! If forgetting doesn't work, just pretend you don't know. "Huh? Frank who?"
You can still fumikomi without pain? Focus on how painfull it should feel and soon enough you'll get there! A little aching on every step you take, every move you make works wonders.
Call people

So it's not all bad, then? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/confused.gif

But you know what? I plan on sliding across the finish line, all beat up, smashed up and and used up saying, "Wow, what a ride!"
I've had cancer, a broken neck, I've been shot at, stabbed and survived things that would have killed 10 other men. I drive cars, motorcycles, boats and airplanes waaay to fast. I'm pushing 60 and I ain't done yet.

Getting closer to the mark myself

Yep, pretty soon you will start catching yourself saying things like "When I was your age" and "You have it so easy now". See below

30 wasn't so bad. 25 was harder - your insurance rates go down, and there's really nothing to look forward to except retirement.

Don't forget the ease of renting automobiles :P

I turned 30, got married overseas, bought our first house, had our first kid, and changed careers in the space of a year.
Subsequent years have been easier by comparison.

happy be-lated.

a friends of mine told me, its kind of a relief to be out of the 20's, he said it felt good to not have to try and be cool anymore.

I look forward to that.. not that I was cool to begin with.

Well I never got over it and the grim future that you just sketched is alas true. But try to lead your own life instead of the other way round. Because that's what's bound to happen. And try to have much fun on the way. Ride a motorbike or something that makes you feel alive. Kendo is also a good one by the way.
My heartfelt sympathies for officially going downhill from now on.

I wish I could remember 30!

Just keep doing stuff. Try new things, don't think old. I've just turned 50 and just started iaido and golf and start fencing next week. I started mountain biking at 40 and am still skiing after 30 years.

Just remember - death is nature's way of warning you to slow down. Up until then - don't!

It's no big deal. Plan for the future but live for today.
