My goodness!! Such a large ego... I expect better from a sandan. I've only been doing Kendo for 2 months, but I have a pretty good idea what is expected of someone of your rank. Trust me, my sensei would be most ashamed of you and your behavior. I feel ashamed for you myself. Have you no honor? What it means to be sandan... Being sandan means you must be humble and not wish to be at the head of the line. Being sandan means you put the younger Kenshi first before yourself. Being sandan means you do not boast. Being sandan means you understand that when you visit another dojo, no matter how long you've been visiting it, that you are not to be impolite and put yourself ahead of the students whose dojo it is in the first place. Being sandan means you follow the rules of the dojo you are visiting, no matter how well you are known there. Being sandan means that you don't get all mad and start swearing in posts when you don't get your way. Being sandan means that you don't try to beat down others in keiko. It's very rude. Not to mention dishonorable. You should not be proud of doing that. Being sandan means you don't say bad things about other Kenshi and call them names as you did in your first post. You should have grown out of that by now. Being sandan means the younger and less experienced Kenshi will look up to you. It is your responsibility to behave accordingly and act as a role model. In your posts you have not shown you are able to do this yet. Being sandan means you understand that there is no place for arrogance of any sort in the dojo or outside of the dojo. You have not proven you understand this yet. Well, that's my list of what it means to me, to be a sandan. Please excuse me if you think I am impolite, but I think it had to be said. Gomen nasai. I wish you would please think about the things in my list. Thank you. Kaoru |

I think max has a lot of good points even though he sounds like a Jack @$$. His actions are respectful even though his thoughts are not....you can’t really get on him because he does all the "right" things. In Japan even when you don’t want to do something for your A-hole senpai, you have to do it. The senpai does not care if you like them or not, and they don’t care about what you think (It takes a big A-hole to think like this), all they care about is your actions. Is kendo not a reflection of a certain part of Japanese culture??? MAX can think disrespectfully if he wants to, all he is expected to do is “show” respect. So who is really wrong here????? Max who is doing the reigi tadashii things or the “chicken $hit” people that are being gyogi warui???? For the people that are still new to kendo (10 years or less) how would you know what its like to be in the position that max is? He may not deserve respect morally, but he should get it at the dojo. Isn’t part of kendo being humble and learning about humility? If max is as well mannered as he says he is, I believe that he has paid his dues to his senpai over the years( sounds like he is bitter about it hahaha), but when you get people that are new to kendo….sometimes they don’t abide by the same rules that applied to you. Some people that are new to kendo understand this kinda “sucky” but Atari mai part of kendo…manners, senpai/kohai, the Japanese culture…if you do not agree with this stuff, well maybe you should not be doing something at is dominated by these ideas. Monku attara deteke!!!! Sounds harsh…but you all have free will to stay in kendo or quit… part of doing kendo is being a part of this world.
max you sound like a hot shot...if you come to socal i will smack the crap out of you!! gahahahaha!!!! |

[QUOTE=Hai_hai]MaxPayneWayne,
First off, you are not a true kendo student. You are a prideful American, kendoka wanna-be. QUOTE] Hey, how 'bout we not use 'American' as some type of negative modifier, ok? |
GET OUT OF MY DOJO!
Cause I beat them down during keiko, that's why. I merely wanted to know if anyone in this forum ever had this problem. This sort of thing is very rare in the Australian kendo world, but it does happen.

and maybe they don't know they were supposed to ask permission, etc. because they were never taught these things, not just at their previous dojo, but also at home (as some parents don't really care about courtesy)? if you want, you can tell them how things should be done at your dojo, or you can wait for your sensei to correct them if he wishes to. if i were you, i'd go talk to them, because it's better to correct things sooner than waiting for them to get worse and ingrained. my $0.02. |
Guys, stop this.
This arguing is senseless. All you guys seem to care about is insulting each other. If I was in a dojo practicing with you higher ranked people right now, I'd not know how to think about the lot of you. You all talk of respect, but it all goes right out the window when you insult each other like this. I guess all of you ignored my previous post then. I may be just a beginner, but I know that all this insulting each other confuses me when you people say respect is important, and then this mess. As a beginner, I'd not approach any of you in class, because of this. I'd stay far away. In my previous post, it was just a bunch of ideas I had on what it would mean to carry the responsibility of being a sandan. It wasn't meant as an insult at all, even though some comments were for Max. Please don't yell at me. Kaoru |

There is no need to say "American." Anyone from any country can behave this way. It's not nice to single a specific group out and make generalisations. However, I agree with everything in the rest of your post. Kaoru |
this attitude kinda suck maxpaynedude.
Happy Kendo! Maybe you think your a samurai, and therefore, your pride is your only possession, along with your shinai, YOUR dojos, and YOUR second dojos and your third dan. |
it's all about learning self control (yeah, right), funny how most of the times you see a mild manner kendoka around the dojo end then when they sit in front of the computer an in the forum they turn into el-flamo (me included) and suddenly the whole thread's caught in a wild bushfire. It's easier to flame some post compared to say throwing insults to someone right in front of you.
