Well, we did get used to it in the IRA days...this is not that much different, although the media hysteria certainly is.

First a caveat: I do not condone or approve of the IRA bombings in any way.

There is a difference. As a general rule, the IRA notified the government before the bombs were detonated. I think the theory was to limit civilian causualties but to maximize disruption.
