Default Kendo Foods and Drinks
Something I have been wondering for some time.

What is it you eat, drink before practise and do you take any special care to this so you perform better at kendo.

If possible I like to eat pasta's and have alot of water or fruit juices before practise.

All I can do is tell you what not to eat. Do not eat jalepeno cheeseburgers or pepperoni quesadillas (my own invention) before keiko. Unless you want to spend half of it in the restroom.

I normally have a breakfast of multi-grain cereal, maybe some orange juice, some coffee, and if I'm feeling especially hungry, some toast along with breakfast. Nothing greasy, heavy, or full of fat.

As for drinking, I usually drink water on the way to the dojo, since it's an hour's drive for me. Once there, I have a large thermal mug full of a sports drink and ice, which I can sip at during breaks in the action. If nothing else, it keeps the electrolyte level in my system where it needs to be, especially since afterwards, it's "second dojo" and the alcohol tends to leach them back out again.

My physiology unfortunately does not allow for stealth back blow maneuver.

The phrase that comes readily to mind is:

"Nuclear-Blast-Typhoon"

.....It's sort of a super-power I have.

Most trainings I've not had anything to eat for 4-5hrs prior to keiko. (Most training is in the evening for us) If I'm really hungry, I might eat a cup of Shin Ramyun or muesli bar. I always drink water before practise. On Saturday morning, before keiko I eat a light breakfast of yoghurt, fruit and some cereal.

I do my best to eat and drink healthy during the week, weekends are usually a bit more relaxed.

Just red bull then, wow, real healthy I'm usually just from college so a 'freshways' sandwich and some water.

I almost always have a Vitamin Water. Sports drinks with electrolytes, not the "energy" drinks (most if not all of them are fueled by caffiene).

Many times, I'll try to have Indian food that day. It may be considered "heavy", but it works for me

My trainings are in the evening so I make sure to have a healthy lunch (Subway think fresh!) on training days and to drink loads of water as well.

I eat pretty much whatever I feel like, but typically no less than an hour before practice. I like to get it partially digested before training.

Thanks for the many responces.

I have noticed that it depends alot on what I eat towards how well I can perform during keiko.

For example if I have a meal with potatoes, veggies and a meatball then I have the same effect as if i wouldn't have eaten.

When I eat nasi goreng or some pasta dish then it's like I have more energy and I'm less tired but more hungry after practise.

I usually have a bottle of water with me of 1.5l which I drink on my way home. We rarely drink during keiko at our dojo.

never under estimate the power of red bull. speaking about red bulls, i'm pretty sure the ones they sell at asia are way stronger than the ones in NA. now those can kill you.

also, the advantage of working out is, you can eat anything you want.
