Mac Freeze
Hi, I'm having trouble with the new Leopard OSX. It keeps crashing/freezing randomly. I'll get this screen with a gray box saying that I need to restart my computer. Can anyone tell me how to fix this really annoying problem? I do have the copy of a report that was supposed to be sent to apple.

Try searching on google groups. just go to google and one of the small titles will say groups. Its a bunch of forums but I can usually find solutions in there for most computer related problems

I half expected this to be some kind of Cold MacDonalds thread >_<

The man vs. the Machine
I can crash ANY computer: PC with win XP, Vista, Linux, Dos, or a Sun with Solaris. Even a Mac. The mac is just harder to kill because you can't do anything with it, so you can mess up. |
ive intentionally crashed ubuntu and knoppix... I was SO bored.

-Charles, who has 4 macs, and thinks of all of them as BSD machines... |
Um, faulty apps should definitely NOT be able to cause kernel panics! That would be bad indeed and result in a very unstable system.

|
Mine was caused the by the torrent program, Azerus. Switched to using Terminal and has not had problems since, and I've even left the computer on for two straight days.

I think it's likely that I'll stick to Tiger for another year or so. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to handle the growing pains of Leopard. But hey, big thank yous to all you early adopter types for taking a hit for the team! -Charles |

I haven't had kernel panics since I stopped using Azerus, so I'm just going to assume that was the cause. |
If software (non-privileged code) can cause a kernel panic, something is broken in the kernel. So I guess Apple is saying their kernel is buggy...

And Gates did very probably not "make many programs incompatible". That is just the price you need to pay on upgrading an operating system. Things will be done differently, and stuff will break. So, I wanted a Mac. But, the Mac I want costs an arm and a leg. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif All Macs that are decent do. Even the laptops are. A top end Microsoft PC costs less than a top end Mac from what I've found. So, my Dad gave me his old Win XP laptop from 2 1/2 years ago so I can wait to see what happens with Vista and maybe save up for a Mac. They are good for composing music among other things. Why the heck does everyone think that Macs are so great with music? It's the same hardware as a PC, and the operating system is a form of UNIX. My laptop is ~2 years old, and apart from the latest games, there is really nothing I can't do well. Unless you have a very good reason, then you don't need Vista. Microsoft will support XP for a few years more. I think I can download Vista for free as a Computer Engineering student through Microsoft Academic Alliance, but I am not going to. I am happy with Ubuntu. Penguins are nice http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif |
