I'm surprised...

The same BS posts get made about X vs Y in MA.

People always tend to forget that it is the artist and not the art

IMHO, this is the only conclusive cross MA fight that settles the debate, it is very short: Karate Vs. Judo.

I watch around 20 kendo videos last night online. Around 5 or so where Kendo Vs other wepon arts. Every one the kendo guys got their arses handed to them? WTF? Is there any data on this anywhere? Id think kendo would be a better sword form and art than most other ones. I mean they even found a one handed midevil sword fighter.
I'm sorry, but what is your exact experience with Kendo? I believe once you trained & studied Kendo for as little as a year, under a true Sensei, in a true Dojo, you will have answered your own question & understood why your question/statement is unnecessary.

It is too bad that you spent all that time on videos not having anything to do with Kendo. If you truely desire to become a Kenshi, you will understand my post & why I feel this way after training for as little as 6 months.

I will leave you with this statement which was told to me nearly 3 years ago, but I didn't understand it to last year -- "Your only opponent in Kendo is yourself!" -- now whenever I, or any true kenshi train, this is foremost in our mind.

Sometimes people come to Kendo seeking other things. You need to decide what you want to do...

If however you do choose to study Kendo with a sincere heart & mind, the benifits you will recieve will be far more valuable & useful than hitting someone on the head with a stick: The desire for self-improvement, Self-Discipline, calmness, worth, a sense of place, exposure to rich culture, mental & physical well being, etc...

good luck to you whatever it is...

I'd like to see some of these videos you speak of before I start guessing why someone looked good or bad. Got a list of these video's you are talking about?

It's like who would win in a fight between Luke Skywalker and Conan the Barbarian.
Luke, obviously. OTOH, the USS Enterprise would pound an Imperial Star Destroyer into slag in minutes. And Superman would totally pwn Spider-man.

Not that any of this has much to do with kendo....

probably stuff like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl4xpy7i_Bw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfno9HUdymA

if you are interested in seeing different types of weapons matchups, look for videos from people who are involved in the ARMA, who I believe practice under a common ruleset.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RQn9kYB5Mc

the above is kendo vs soccer. that includes everything else right?

EXCUSE ME? A star destoryer would completely whomp the Enterprise. They would just loose all their TIE's and pound Enterprise from a distance. Yeah...

Return of the Jedi was on the other night, once the main deflector shield on the Super-star destroyer was blown up by little more than x, y, a and b wing fire that baby went down quicker than some rude scenario that I'm not cool enough to quote, but it was quick.

Unfortunately the Enterprise is more likely to find some peaceful means to end the conflict as most of their weapons would be thwarted to just render them inefectual which is mostly what happend in the Next Gen series, even with the Borg it was like here's a flash of the battle at Wolf 359, lets come back later to catch up on all the debris, cheapskates!

Hi,

The enterprise has not one chance in a million year to scratch a destroyer; on the other hand, a battlestar with her vipers might have a change. remember those viper are highly maneuverable, they can face one direction while flying toward the other.
And God forbid if you bring on the SDF-1 she would wipe the floor with the enterprise; her transformable fighters are better than the vipers; and put on a hell of a fight against the imperials

I have been reading posting on this forum on and off and I could refrain myself to registering and posting in this thread. This is my first post.

come on guys, please be realistic. We are talking about what's happening on Earth, not from some distance galaxy.

I would like to see who will win, Transformer or Kingkong?

As long as the Transformers stay under Linux. A Blus screen of Death might be lethal.

Let's look at it from this point of view. Star wars has Yoda. Star trek has....Picard. Hmmmmm.... little green guy that can throw a building at your head or a pompus captain who wishes he had the libido of Kirk.

Picard is WAAAAAY outclassed here.

Darth Vader vs. Riker....hmmm no brainer

Luke vs Wesley Crusher....ok well they both suck but hey every story needs a geek.

Data vs. R2D2.....R2 all the way. He's got personality.

Star trek just doesn't have the depth of characters that Star Wars has...and lets face it. The Death Star would be unstopable in the Star Trek universe.

That's a cliché and is as false as saying that showing respect to your teacher in kendo means never bother him with questions. I tried fencing for three months, and that's enough to say that you're wrong. Preferring kendo to fencing as I do does not mean that fencing is a "reiho-less" sport.
Hey, easy fella, I also took three months of fencing (in college)! I had a ball doing it and met some nice "reiho-type" folks. My remark was directed at Olympic fencing, the highest level of competition I presume. Have you seen the embarrassingly in-your-face, self-absorbed theatrics of those competitions? The victors could teach Tiger Woods a thing or two about over-the-top, rip-your-helmet-off, fist-pumping. That behavior is diametrically opposite of the respect, humility and honor you find in every kendo competitor from those at the highest levels and at every level of competition down to beginners.

...i know practitioners of stick fighting arts that would disagree.

Short of the matter is though, these fights tend to be approached as shinai kendo vs XXXX.... like a stick fight. A shinai is only a stick because it looks like a stick, everything else about it says sword.
With all due respect to escrima or other stick-fighting disciplines, I believe they are mostly about combat weapons training and sport. I am unaware of any underlying ethos like that which is at the core of kendo. Kendo may have historically been derived from the practice of the sword but it is not today a combat weapons training course. Kendo is about YOU, not your sword or shinai. All this "whoop @ss" comparison is meaningless unless you're an adolescent anime and/or video characters fan.

I love you guys, seriously.

Here is the real deal.

Enterprise would beat a star destroyer, no worries. Photon torpedo right up its rusty.

Transformers vs king kong / godzilla well, that's gotta be transformers.... Bruticus, Devastator, Omega Supreme, Fortress maximus etc etc... One poxy litte monkey aint gonna be worth squat when the "chrr chraaa chrooo chrrr chrrrr" noise is heard. (That's the transforming noise )

And Yoda, i think i see where you are driving at and i can appreciate it, hell i even agree with it to some extent. Agree to partially agree and partially disagree.

You shouldnt take this whole "vs." personal. Check youtube! There are "XXX vs. XXX" all over it. Do a search for Tae Kwon Do Vs. and you'll find alot of non-flattering portraits of TKD.
