Yeah great innit?

Another good thing to do to those who only do kendo is go into a kamae like TSKSR sasagakura ( left arm out at the opponent, palm toward face- sword is brought back over right shoulder). When they stop to say "what're ya doin' " (which they always do) you get a nice yokomen. At this point they will bleat (and yes it is bleating) "that's not kendo".

To which you smile nicely and point out that you hit him on his men with your shinai before he hit you; ask him what isn't kendo about that!http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif
I would LOVE to see you pull that one on Tokyo's Taguchi sensei. Really. I would love to see it. I would bring the beer and the camera.

I study a different line of MJER, which explains the difference http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

I've seen both lines. They both make their way work for them and can teach it well so it never phased me when I saw it. It just made my life a little less complicated when I started kendo. If I learned the other way I'm sure naginata would have been easier...as it is now that's the harder one for me http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/confused.gif

The fact that it's sucker punchin like a little toe rag probably.

Raising a hand up is generally cause for the other person to think "What's wrong? Are you injured? Himo undone?" only for you to hit them... very nice...
It isn't actually held up in the same way to suggest something is wrong but it IS intended as a distraction.

And in my defence I only usually do it to those kendoka who are up their own bums (toaster was an exception, cos she is one of my Iai students). Get sick of the saying Iai is stupid and doesn't work. Then whammo, they see it work

Next time he does that he'll get suckered .
Oo-er.

Oh no sunshine. This one knows his limits. I also supsect that Taguchi Sesnei would not stand there slagging off Iaido and jodo (or any other martial art)

A few weeks ago I took up another martial art in addition to iaido. Can you guess what it is?

That's right: I've started kendo.
I went the other way around -- iaido class is scheduled in the space between kendo and naginata on Sundays, so I started taking it... and am now thoroughly hooked.

I've been thinking about starting iaido next to kendo but I first wanna get my ikkyu before I'll go there.

Would that be Oda Sensei, by chance, Kendoka?

My old kendo sensei used to bemoan the iaidoka holding their shinai like iaito http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif When I'm doing my morning men cuts, I use bokken, shinai and iaito and always try to make sure I'm holding the shinai right down at the end of the tsuka so I don't fall into that trap.
Yep! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/smiley.gif
