I thought it was "Devils day" the Saturday before Halloween that had the highest violent crimes.

Isn't Halloween the day/night with the single highest number of shootings in the US?
Actually, that's the last night of the annual NCAA basketball tournament.

My cat's trying to help me paint up my costume. Very kind of her but...

I'm beginning to think it'd be easier to skin her and wear her pelt! At least it's well over thirty so what I'm doing today should dry soon.

Alright Newbie you asked for it so I'll tell. My costume isn't that original. I just threw on my iaido monsuke and hakama, grabbed my iaito and out the door I went. I did however manage to stop traffic on the way. 6ft tall white guy in dogi walking through Yokohama station on a Saturday night. I think I just added to my neighbourhood infamy....crappy My students better like it or I'm going postal.

i wore montsuki, hakama and a kodachi last time we dressed up at work

got my outfit put back until they are reduced. (age 11-13 years old size)
hope it fits
i even went for the pink one as it had a better tail and looked less like i was being sylvester.
was wondering whether to punk it up a bit and be a stray cat though...

As an Australian who grew up during the '80s, Halloween is pretty much a non-event for me. Ditto. I find that those of us who like Hallowe'en have to make it into an event. But now that most of my social group are roleplayers, Hallowe'en kicks arse. Last year one of my workmate's Hallowe'en party was so big it made the news (but she's a horror writer so what do you expect?).

Bearing in mind the cobwebs have been dusted away for another year so most folks won't give a stuff but here's what I got up to instead of going to practice.

People made a great effort for the Hallowe'en party and the decorations absolutely kicked arse. But noone rememberd to take photos. Well, by the time I remembered I'd drunk three quarters a bottle of sake and don't think I could work the camera if I wanted to. Got plenty of compliments on my outfit But they made me take of my sword (bokken with wooden saya) cos it was too hard to move and walk through doorways without hitting people

So, anyone got pics?

Mine won't make any sense to those who live outside of Oregon, but I went as measure 49. (Basically, despite it being a very controversial measure, all the opposition ever says about measure 49 is that it's a "wolf in sheeps clothing", so I dressed up as that).

I missed this years Halloween since I had to shoot this concert but last year, I dressed up as a dead Maori soldier. The thing is, here, the whole Halloween thing is pretty new and not quite settled yet. And last year, the All Saint's Day fell in the middle of the week so some people had their Halloween parties the weekend before and some after. We missed those of the weekend before, but decided to go after all, so we searched the Internet for Halloween parties (the same day) and found this weired club in a back alley. We all (5 people) dressed up the best we could and were really quite a seen. Once downtown, we realized that most people, if they had celebrated Halloween, they had chosen the first weekend, because we were the only ones in costume. At stop lights, we managed to turn more than a few faces, and they seemed to think, poor misfits who have to dress up to get attention...At the club we realized that we had definitely overdone the make-up. We stayed for a couple of ours, danced to Disco (not my choice of music) and left for McDonald's That was my first Halloween party for at least a decade, but I'm eager to try a new costume/make-up soon.

Did you skip practice for an entire month?! there must be 20 different pumpkins there... They are very cool, how long do they take each? I've never seen a real live carved pumpkin, but judging from the periodic battles I have chopping them up to make soup, carving them can't be easy?? Do you have to cook them first to make them softer?

And more so, aren't they very expensive? With all that weight and all...

I think jack-o-lanterns are easier than cutting up a pumpkin for eating. You just cut off the top and scoop the guts out so you're not even really having to cut through the skin. Then carve a face into it or something. I've done it with normal kitchen knives, like paring knife, etc.
