Ok. The only AUSKF(US governing body for Kendo) recognised dojo nearest you, is in Richmond. There are no Kumdo dojo recognised by the AUSKF near you. Ones not recognised, you have to be very careful. Some are ok, others, definately not. It's better to just go to one recognised by the AUSKF, if you aren't sure. I don't know of any of your organisation anywhere near you. Anyway, try to go to the one in Richmond. It's good, and reputable. It's about 60, maybe 70 miles from you, according to that map I posted above. So, that's like, an hour from you. It's better than two hours! If the distance is a problem, you don't have to go to every practice. You can go once a week or twice a month, depending on your schedule. My dojo is two hours and approx. 20 min away from me. So, I go twice a month. I just practice at home in between the time I can't go to the dojo. So, that could work for you too. Just be sure to call the sensei first, to ask if you may practice with them. And, if you can't make it to every practice, let the sensei know what days you will come to practice. They'll be pleased whenever you are able to make it to practice. So, here's the dojo: SEUSKF(South East US Kendo Federation) Koryo Dojo 10960-F Three Chopt Rd Richmond, VA W 7:00-8:30pm Sa 1:00-2:30pm Contact: Phuong K. Hoang (804)527-1059 work (804)550-2878 home ------------------ For some reason the website isn't working, so you should just call or e-mail the person listed above for more information. I hope this helps! Good luck! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif Kaoru |
Yeah I agree with the it's fake. It definitely isn't real kendo. Try to find a regular kendo dojo. Good luck. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

Myo Sim Kendo
Does anyone know anything about Myo Sim Kendo? Is it the same as Kendo or is it one of those "fake" martial arts? I'm wondering because I get a little rusty when I'm at school and I saw that there was Myo Sim Kendo practice at a nearby recreation center. It'd be nice if I could practice with them once in a while to stay sharp.

There's a new student in my school club, who did myo sim kendo. It's kinda annoying becaouse he does stuff 'differently' than how we kendo people normally do it, but, he won't listen to me because he thinks he's right.
It's kinda bad too, since, i'm not a sensei, so, i can't really tell him, you're wrong, stop doing that. Last year, almost the same thing. This kid who learned kendo from a taekwando dojang, so, he was doing stuff wrong everywhere, and, he wouldn't listen to us correcting him. That really annoys me because it probably seem to them I'm telling people the wrong stuff when i'm not. |
I agree with all of the above posts... this Myo Sim Kendo seems kindda suspicious... looks funny that bogu is being worn on top of a karate-gi... hehe. I think that it is definitely Korean in origin... take Kaoru's advice... stick to dojos affiliated with the AUSKF.
"shooting star drill" ??? What the heck is that? http://www.student.virginia.edu/~myo...uidelines.html |

I agree with the rest of the guys. Go to a real Kendo dojo. I just went to look at that site on it, and it is definately not Kendo.(So had to edit, of course. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif ) I am surprised you didn't check the AUSKF or the Kendo America sites for dojos in VA. There are two Kendo dojos near you. One in Arlington and one in Oakton. I looked on a map to see how far. And, they both look to be 20 miles or less from you according to the mile legend on the map I looked on. So no complaining about driving distance. hehehe! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif My dojo is at least 2 hours away, so you are VERY lucky to have one much closer. The stuff in blue are the websites and e-mails to click on. Here it is: GNUSKF Northern Virginia Budokai Kendo: Tuesday 7:30 - 9:30p George Mason University Friday 7:30 - 10p Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department Dance Hall 3600 Lee Highway, Arlington Virginia 22207 Contact: David Armstrong, President, 240-463-2312 Ernest Lizzabet, (703)352-0768 -------------------- There is also this one in Oakton: Shidogakuin Washington DC (Washinkan) Oakton Elementary School Oakton Virginia F Contact: James Yan (703)716-0335 Shidogakuin Washington DC Kendo Dojo (Washinkan)Washington DC Metro Area: Rockville, MD, Oakton, VA -------------------- So, you now have two to choose from to fit your schedule. You don't have to go to all the practices, if you don't have a lot of time to attend all the practices, though it would be preferable to attend them all. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif I myself, only get to go once every other week, but wish I could go every week. If you practice on your own outside the dojo time, this won't be a huge problem. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif Oh, and here is the map I used. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif Oakton on this map is, I guess, near Washington. I couldn't find it, so Washington DC is what I used to measure the distance for the Oakton dojo. So, for that dojo, 20 min. is an approximate guess for the driving distance. http://www.sitesatlas.com/Maps/Maps/VA1.htm Well, I hope this helps! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif Kaoru |
dude, their kendo is fake. don't go to it. the only thing authentic is the karate.
