Concussion?
Morning all.
Last night i went to a practice with a sister dojang of my school, and got a serious ringer of a men. Not having my head up combined with the kid being kinda a beginner resulted in a very painful few seconds, ringing, etc. However after that i felt fine. BUT that was followed by a horrible nights sleep, feeling really hot at times and, not hallucinating but i guess you could call them sleepy exaggerations? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/ermm.gif For example, i kept feeling like my bed was a suitcase and i kept having to rearrange everything in it, which then tied into kinda weird dreams. But whatever the case, I woke up and my head really hurt. The rest of my body hurt as well, but i hadn't been able to make it to kendo in some time leading up to last night, so i can attribute it to simple post keiko soreness. But after getting a little more sleep, I don't feel much like a zombie like i did when i first woke up, but my head still hurts. (it's not a pounding pain, but i just feel really delicate, and i have to move slowly as not to rattle my head too much. I know we have some medically knowledgeable people on KW, so does it sound like i have a minor concussion? or is there something else wrong with me? |
am NOT a qualified medical person, but if you are worried get your arse down to casualty (ER) or seek professional medical advice, better safe than sorry or worst
any "diagnosis" done even on these forums, can only be done circumstantially at best a qualifed person would need to see you in person to make an accurate diagnosis if you are a "kid", speak to your parents, because they will be able to help |
See a doctor. Even an experienced doctor would probably have a hard time confidently diagnosing you with just a description. No point in messing around.
|
yea, you guys are right. thanks for the advice.
You have a point that medical diagnosis's via a internet forum are not a great idea, but i was also curious if anyone else had experienced this kind of thing? |
I agree with the others...
For what it's worth, what you've described sounds a lot like what I've experienced when I've had concussions. I've also experienced dizziness, nausia, and loss of vision. As I understand it, you're recommended not to sleep if you have a concussion... you might not wake up. |
just got back from the ER. mild concussion >_<
|
Hope you feel better soon...

the doc said i should stay away from contact sports for 2 weeks. He didn't seem to think it was a significant concussion tho, so that's good.

Take it easy while you are out, don't take any risk.

Neil, Hamish or Alex, I think this could afford to be stickied in the Training subforum. b

Why the hell are people asking members of a web forum about possibly serious medical issues like concussion. GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!

sorry, i guess concussions make one irritable too. |
I always assumed you got concussions when hit on the back of the head, not the top.
|
It can be any part of the head, and it doesn't have to be a hit, it can be caused by a violent shake too. In simplistic terms it's caused by sudden movement of the brain causing rotational forces or twisting forces in the brain tissues. Not sufficient for physical permanent damage, but enough to affect normal functioning to a greater or lesser degree. Usually rights itself in 2-3 weeks depending on seriousness.

I'm glad you went to see the Dr.
I hope this clears up relatively quickly. Be patient with yourself, however the affects of even a mild concussion can linger on. A good friend of mine had a minor concussion falling from her horse (well the horse 'helped her off a bit too'), and had headaches of varying severity on and off for over a year later. Best of luck. |
