Watch American TV from abroad

If you like to watch American TV shows when you are abroad from sites like Hulu.com, but get that annoying error message that states you cannot because you are not inside of the good old U.S. Of A., then here's the solution:

No need to thank me.

Just name your first born after me.

Say it backwards, and I will return to my home dimension.

What't the crack with these "watch video" sites that ask you to download their viewer? Kosher or not?

indocrew 12-06-2008 01:26 PM

if you need to watch USA tv... just come to the UK. Be warned there are less adverts so you need to increase your attention span...http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/laugh.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/laugh.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/laugh.gif

Need more info in order to provide assessment.

Which are you referring to?

But by and large, avoid sites which will not play in a commercially recognized player.
Generally since Media Player pretty much is the standard, I'd say if it don't play in that, forget it.

(Which reminds me, the bizarre player required on the KW videos will not be gracing my system, ever.)

Watching American T.V. in GB is akin to visiting to German Gasthouse and ordering a Coors.

Unfortunately some of our forumers may have the surname 'Sucker'. If this be the case please do NOT name your first born after him.

Public announcement ended.

One time I watched an old episode of Family Matters when I was visiting Germany (the episode was dubbed in German). It was one of the biggest, most shameless wastes of time in my life.

What.....even worse than Little House on the Prairie??

illerlytoindy 12-11-2008 06:36 AM

Anything has to be better than Doctor fucking Who.

...Except Little House on the Prairie. Possibly.

Hulu still loads v. slowly as its an American service, but it works well and Hotspot Shield is the least-awkward program for it. Adverts are built in, but only two or three (v.reasonable for a hi-def, streaming TV service).

JOR4qxYH 12-26-2008 03:08 AM

I couldn't get it to work, and now the program that had to be installed is messing up my pc, it blocks off some off my pages. If anyone has an idea of how to remove a program called Hotspot Shield I'll appreciate it. I've had a look around google for a solution and it doesn't seems that straightforward.

If I want to watch American shows (e.g. Always Sunny in Philly) I just d/l them from p2p.

No fannying about needed.

Howver... I'd be interested to hear (and may just give it a go myself) if anyone in the UK gets Pandora to work this way... i loved that website... and they tooks it from usss, they tooks it!

djmassk 12-27-2008 10:04 AM

Honestly, in comparison to watching shows on Hulu, et al, downloading torrents is the fannying about route. With p2p you typically spend more time waiting for downloads than you do watching the actual shows.

Save the p2p efforts for things that are otherwise unavailable.

It should work fine for Pandora, same principles at work. What we need is the same system for access to the BBC iPlayer.

Cvo1iRT0 12-27-2008 11:32 AM

Have the streaming sites improved their quality so that they can be watched on a large screen?

(In admission, I have never been a fan of these things from experience of crap resolution but if it's tv quality then i might have to go and look for my favourite shows... even though I can't think of US shows on just now that I'd need/want to watch...)
