Apparently the tennis centre at Burswood is going to be where the new stadium is going to be built. Great to finally get a decision but there are still a lot of BUT's.
They are reporting a capacity of at least 60 000. Our ever increasing population demands much greater than 60 000, more like 75 - 80 000. I hope they aren't going to restrict building this stadium within the area where the tennis centre is. There should be no amount of land spared to build this stadium to get it right so entry into and out of the stadium is easily managed and done as quickly as possible. The people entrusted with the building of this stadium need to have a good look at the MCG and Etihad to see how it's been done over there. I've never been to those grounds but have heard it many times how easy it is to get in and out of those stadiums and away to public transport and car parks etc... They are only going to get one shot at this and they better not scrimp and cut corners. This needs to be done right and done with not just the current population in mind, but the growing population over the next 30 years. |

No matter how I look at it, I know this will be a cock-up.... Here in WA we have no idea how to get anything right from the start. And yes 60,000 will be something like 55,307 by the time they cut costings along the way. Much like they always say Subi holds 44,000 and barely 40,000 get in on a sell-out game ??
I remember Barnetts comment about having less toilets at Subiaco Oval to cut costs... When I heard that I just threw my hands up in the air in disbelief. Governments need to plan for the next 50-100 years, not the next 5.... If they dont go straight away with a 70,000 seat stadium, they may as well stay in that pig ar$e crap hole at Subiaco.... My guess is there will continue to be all forms of procrastination regarding this. It will go longer than Fidel Castro's rein in bloody Cuba, if it hasnt already. |

It is amazing isn't it,that going back to 1975 and beyond we were able to fit in excess of 50,000 people into Subiaco for the finals Now our so-called progression today is 45,000 for 4 WAFL games and an AFL game all together. Anyone who tells me football has progressed in 30 years here in WA should seriously pull there heads out of their chutney caves. If things were not ignored so poorly we would be getting approximately 65,000 each week to senior level football matches in WA overall. Oh yes, and we also had a massively vibrant Sunday Football league that attracted good crowds, and now is extinct... Yes we sure have progressed since the Vics got their grubby little hands on our heritage, our pride and our money... |

And just listening to Barnett on the radio, it seems cabinet has not discussed the issue in regard to Burswood anyway. And the Eagles have stated they will stay and continue to be based at Subiaco Oval regardless. And that Subiaco Oval would eventually become a boutique ground (whatever the hell that really means).
If that was the senario, I would expect the Subiaco Football club to possibly move back to Subiaco Oval, and possibly one other WAFL team to share it. |

Yeh maybe so roo-ted.... Leederville is great now.
But if Subiaco Oval was to become this "boutique stadium" the WAFL would probably want to get some WAFL football played there other than just a Grand Final. Maybe neutral games or half a dozen double headers like they did briefly in the eighties. Get rid of some seating behind the goals at the city end ground level and put in grass. However the city of Perth simply does not require venues like Subiaco and the WACA to lay dormet under such circumstances. Cricket could be relocated to Subiaco Oval and the WACA scrapped completely. The WACA really is a white elephant these days. |

Anyone notice all the chalk marks on the side walks along the left hand side of Great Eastern Hwy from about Ascot to Rivervale? And men in safety coloured shirts walking around? I guarantee they (the government), are bending over backwards and sparing no expense to rip up the side walk to expand the width of Great Eastern Hwy from the airport to the city in time for CHOGM in October.
Now this was talked about some time ago about widening Gt Eastern Hwy as it is our gateway for visitors from our airports to the city and it was considered an eye sore but you can bet your house on it this wasn't planned to be done so soon but all of a sudden they want to roll out the red carpet for heads of state from around the world and no penny will be spared but when it comes to what the residents of Perth want who pay the taxes and are born and bred here we get told "YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT" and "WE SIMPLY CAN'T AFFORD TO BUILD A RAILWAY NETWORK OUT TO ELLENBROOK", and "WE CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY 30 NEW TRAIN CARRIAGES" and you can bet your house on it they will pinch the pennies when it comes to this new stadium and it will fall well short of what we require. And I can hear the excuses coming from Barnett's lips and the firm "I can't do anything about it" speech. ![]() ![]() |

It's amazing how for a rich country we are so unwilling to upgrade and build new infrastructure.
When I lived in Argentina, I was amazed how they were able to afford to expand all their underground railways networks (Subte) in every direction so quickly. They currently have a 76 station network. Odd, how they (A 1st, 2nd, 3rd world country rolled into one) can get these things done and we are unwilling to. I wont even go into how many Subaico plus size stadiums they have in Buenos Aires alone. Probably 8 or 9 from memory. The new stadium in Perth needs to be 90,000. It sounds a lot but our population is expanding at such a rate (Currently 1.67 million) that even 90,000 probably wont service the city beyond 2020 or 2025. |

With our population expansion, we wont have enough water to keep the grass green.
And by that stage (the year 2025) I will be drinking your recycled piss, you will be drinking my recycled piss. The stadium bricks will be moulded from genuine WA taxpayer recycled sh!t, and the boat people will have government funded corporate boxes. |
